SA has more and more of a transplant population today than it did in 1990 with no loyalty to HEB, might actually work this time.

Im not quite sure I understand what their goal is here. They won’t have a store, just delivery? Are they trying to compete more with Amazon/Whole Foods? Because they closed a few Randall’s up in Austin recently me did no renew their lease on land owned by H-E-B (the lake Austin Blvd location) dnd now H-E-B is rebuilding on the land….

Would be interesting to see what would happen if Kroger opened up stores to compete with H-E-B. I know H-E-B ran them off a long time ago but I also know some people have complaints about H-E-B not stocking specific brands of items that they want.

They would die a quick death if they had a brick and mortar store in San Antonio. Do not question SA’s loyalty. Perhaps Austin, not San Antonio.

I like HEB. They are always there for our disasters and donating to the food bank but they are just getting to big for their own business. They could use some good stiff competition but Kroger had a lot of store brands too..

What do you mean by HEB is "getting too big for their own business"? They sell the products people want, they build more stores, HEB has a loyal following....I don't understand your comment. I don't find HEB prices to be out of line.

As much as I like to see healthy competition, HEB has everything (and more) of what the general public wants. Their stores are always stocked and clean and well maintained. Staff is friendly and helpful. I love HEB and could care less if they had one on every corner of SA. I have nothing bad to say about them.

HEB vs Kroger,
HEB is only in TX but KR is nationwide,so its buying power is stronger and it has its own manufacturing plants .
I shop at both,HEB prices are lower and wider selection-seafood,meat and fresh produce.

I lived in San Antonio from 2014 to 2017. I'd never heard of HEB until then, and I had mostly been a Kroger shopper previously. HEB impressed me immediately. Their customer service is beyond anything I could have imagined!

For example, one time I filled out an online request for a particular product. The HEB store manager called me the next day to say that due to exclusivity to Walmart, he wouldn't be able to stock it. However, he had put together a large bag of several alternatives for me to try, complements of HEB, which he personally delivered to my house! I couldn't believe it! I had several other "blow me away" customer service experiences while I lived there. Their products, prices, and tasting stations were all wonderful too.

I miss a lot of things about San Antonio. HEB is high on that list. Kroger doesn't hold a candle to them.
