I"m taking a day trip to San Antonio on Friday - coming from Austin. Visiting with my friend and two year old.

Can anyone give me some feedback on these questions?

Are there kid/toddler friendly places on the Riverwalk or is it just shopping?

What attractions are there that will interest everyone?

What family restaurants would you recommend on the riverwalk?

Everyone loves music so which area of the walk will have music playing?

Thanks for reading and for your time!

Rose

This looks like it might be fun for you and the 2 year old--maybe start there and head into downtown after lunch on Broadway somewhere?

Yikes, I put the wrong date. It's friday the 23rd. That's what happens when I try to do two things at once. I need to slow down.

Thanks Sapphire. I'm going to check out the Red Balloon. Thank you.

If I was entertaining a toddler on the Riverwalk, I'd definitely take them for a boat ride. Boats board near the Rivercenter Mall. Do the ride early in the day before the lines get long. The wait can be up to an hour if you wait until after lunch.

Also, I think the Rainforest Cafe on the Riverwalk is touristy but kid-approved.

Riverwalk is mostly restaurants/bars, with a mall at the end, though on some weekends there are arts fairs w/stalls.

I take my toddler there a few times per month (we live nearby and go there for walks) and usually she's happy just strolling along looking at all the people.

Northstar Mall is far from Downtown, but we made a special trip for our neice who wanted a "Build a Bear". I believe Northstar Mall is the only mall in San Antonio who has a Build a Bear Store.

If it were me I'd hop a trolley (I think it's the red? they are color coded and quaint but it's basically a small bus) from Rivercenter mall and head to the Western edge of downtown to the park by Market Square (Milam Park). It's very shady with lots of play equipment then there's Market Square shopping across the street. There's a snow cone stand on the corner. If you go from there on the trolley again back towards Rivercenter and stop off at Main Plaza (Main and Market I think?) during the midday they often have music in the park.

The SA Children's museum is downtown too but I don't know if I'd spend the money for a 2 year old. Just my personal tightwad-ness though. LOL.
