New Houses Near Lackland AFB
Hi,
My husband & I are looking to buy a house near Lackland AFB. We're military and would like a good area to raise kids. Cookie cutter neighborhoods are fine...lol. Just want a nice area.

I prefer the NISD just in case my kids don't go to school on Lackland. What's near Seaworld? Thanks for the info.

Well, since you do prefer Northside ISD, and you don't mind being near SeaWorld, then you have many many options. The neighborhoods off Kriewald that I mentioned earlier are fairly close to SeaWorld. Also, there's many new areas off Potranco Rd which is very close to SeaWorld. Check the DR Horton website and you'll see a neighborhood called Amhurst off Potranco just west of 1604. There's also a neighborhood called Trophy Ridge from Medallion Homes...very nice area with older style architecture reminiscent of the 30s or 40s but with modern touches, of course. Google the Medallion Homes website too so you can see for yourself. Further down Potranco outside of 1604, you'll find Centex neighborhoods, more DR Horton homes and Armadillo Homes. That area is in one of the fastest growing regions of SA so you won't have a problem finding something to your liking. Also, the schools off Potranco are all NISD and they are all brand new or at least within 2 yrs or so. More new elementary's and a new high school is planned within 3-4 yrs.

Westcreek is a nice neighborhood near Seaworld. It's between Potranco and Military outside of 1604. The ZIP code is 78253.

Alamo Ranch is a brand new master planned community extremely close to Sea World. Alamo Ranch will have 15,000 homes, a middle school, a elementary school, and much more.

I drove out there the other day, and there are very few houses completed, with only a few more started. It looks like it will be pretty nice some day, but it looks far from that day.

Construction started some 10-11 months ago and that was just infastructure work not housing. Buy there now while prices stay low before it becomes the next Stone Oak.

We just bought a house in Highpoint at Westcreek and are very happy. Of course, we will still be putting up with the "noise" of new construction for a few more months as this neighborhood is about 90% complete. My husband has about a 20 min drive to Lackland, so not too bad. I see lots of Lackland "stickers" on cars, so I think you would feel right at home. The community center and pools look awesome. We are empty nesters, so won't have kiddos in school, but the two near us look wonderful. I believe the two builders in this part of Westcreek are Armadillo and Lennar. There are some great incentives out there right now. Good luck!
