Default reducing sound and echo

This may sound like a strange question but I have a problem with sound in my house. I can hear everything that goes on outside my room. Lots of Echo and its seems like lounder than it should be. I was wondering what i could do to cut back on the sounds. I can hear everything on the other side of the house and im not sure what the problem is.

Put pictures on the walls. It seriously cuts down on echoing.

What type of flooring do you have? If you don't have carpet, maybe a throw rug would help?

I used to have that problem but not any more. Try this. Tell everyone one else in the house to "Shut the H*ll up."

Carpet(s) help absorb the sounds as well as pictures or tapestrys on the walls...when we first moved into this house from Japan and had NO furniture, the ice machine in the fridge dropped a load of ice and both DH and I had to be peeled off the ceiling from the master bedroom on the 2nd floor it was so darn loud!

As was mentioned, things like furniture and carpet will help cut back on the sound levels. Big fluffy couches and chairs really soak up the sound.

Wall, ceiling and bare floor surfaces tend to reflect sound waves, causing things to sound louder. Additionally, if you have high ceilings, they can make the sound more prominent since the sound will take longer to decay naturally.

If you don't mind spending some cash there are sound absorbing materials that are made for recording studios that can help to control/damp the sound.
