Please note this thread is for the discussion of cancellation reasons/past proposals related to the long-rumored Disney park to be built in/near San Antonio. This is NOT for current rumors.

I came across this story* (Todd James Pierce : Looking back on the Disney-MGM Studio Backlot project -- Part 3) which mentions Disney (long ago) announcing plans for parks in SA, Dallas, Chicago, and Philly. If this is true that could explain the start of all the Disney rumors that plague the city. This could also be what the land-owner interviewed on local news meant when he spoke about giving helicopter tours to Disney executives. It also mentions that these urban parks would be much smaller and "not include the TV studio and animation complex".

* SA is mentioned in the paragraph directly above the rendering.

Well, yeah.

Basically, what eventually turned into the Disney SA Rumors were preliminary plans for a 'Shops at La Cantera'-esque shopping center with Mickey Mouse and maybe a Ferris Wheel.

Its amazing what the Internet can do. What Disney and San Antonio mentioned on the same web page? Must be Disney's next big project! :O

it's just a old rumor. So it's prabably never coming.
I remember hearing they didn't approve the site here cause of Sea World/Six Flags.

Just imagine... Disney in SA. *shudders*

Sure, it's mondo money for the city, but in short time the city becomes an uncontrolled crack-addict for their tax dollars and the tourists they bring. It's funny to imagine, but at one time even Orlando was an inhabitable city.

Thank God it's always just been a rumor.

I have a feeling that no matter WHERE Disney would build, they would easily beat the crap out of Seaworld and Six Flags. That's not even competition in the same bracket...

As long as it has something unique that you can't get at the other Disney parks, things like a Texas/Spanish/Western theme and something to do with the Alamo.
