*stops stirring the pot just for a minute* Yes. It was so exhausting I practically had to crawl to my car at the end of the day.

Current teachers: What is the demand for certification these days? I am getting my certification and want to make sure I am going into the right field then? Texas Teachers states special ed is the way to go. Now I am beginning to wonder?

I'm so sorry that your thread got hijacked. I need to learn to just let it go sometimes.

What are you getting your certification in? Someone said earlier that you shouldn't go into special ed unless you have the heart for it, and they're right. Special ed can be especially taxing...it has a pretty high burnout rate (depending on what type of special ed you're talking about). Don't go into a field that your heart isn't going to be in...don't go for middle school if you can't stand teenagers. Get your certification in what you WANT to get it in, not what someone tells you that you should go for.

Math and Science are in demand. But as slaleman said, you have to go with whatever subject you are passionate about. However, if math and science isn't what you love...you might consider using it just to get your foot in the door. But if you absolutely hate math and/or science, it probably wouldn't be worth it to you.

I'm really not sure--I dont want to discourage you, just reporting what was said at the job fair. Bilingual (certified) teachers were getting lots of interviews. I have 9 years experience as a spec ed teacher (with great refs), plus my Gen Ed and ESL certs. That got barely a raised eyebrow at the fair.

I would think with your DH being an employee there, you would have no problem finding a job.

Thanks. I actually to have a special place in my heart for Special Ed students or I would not even consider it. I am just skeptical on if I can get a job in it or if the demand is there for it. My degree is in Accounting, so I could do math 4-8. Could not do HS math - not into Calculus!!! I guess it would not hurt to get my certification in both? If I can pass - lol!

Yea I hope that my DH working for NISD will help. I am just such a planner and was an accountant for many years. So taking this huge step into teaching is very scary for me! But I have such a passion for helping and teaching kids, that I know it is the right move for me. Math or Special Ed is my way to go I guess.

Actually this is the OP that had their thread hijacked and yes, arguing amongst one another does little to assist the person that created the topic for discussion. Let's straighten this thing out and get back on track folks. Thanks
