Default Moving to San Antonio area

I am moving to the San Antonio area with my 3 children. Really want the
hill country experience, BUT a wonderful school system is the most important thing.
Properties in Helotes (spelling?) are looking good. Trying to find the
right combo of a hill country home with 1/2 acre or more and still not so
isolated that the kids can not roam the neighborhood a bit.
Looking at spending about 500,000.
Anybody have any opinions about what neighborhoods are good?
Not into the cookie- cutter home. Love character.....but still it might be
nice to have a community pool for the kids socially, though we will probably
have one.
Also, any clue about new braunfels and schools?

Thanks for any input!!!

if you are looking in the helotes area you may want to check out Sonoma Ranch --- not sure of any other names of subdivisions in that area though ---
