VW: Ancira or Rod East?
I am seriously considering one of the new VW Jetta SportWagens that are coming out soon, and would like to know if anyone has any recommendations (good or bad) for dealerships. Obviously, it is down to Ancira and Rod East; unless anyone has any info on Charles Maund VW up in Austin.
Thanks! M2

I went to Ancira once and wasn't really impressed. I had a 2001 New Beetle (piece of garbage car!!) and the tail light went out, but I couldn't figure out how to get to it. They replaced it for $65 (no typo there) and then told me there was an access portal in the wheel well.. I realize they have to make money, but I found that pretty pathetic..
Totally hated the car and would definitely never buy "german engineering" again.. big 'ol POS if you ask me.

I went to Ancira once, shopping. Not really ready to buy. I never felt so much pressure in my life. Telepone calls to work and home asking if I was ready to buy. I finally told them to leave me alone and not call me at all. I felt like a bill collector was chasing me. I did not buy a car from Rod East but I've heard they are more class and less pressure. That is a gold star to me.

Although I don't own a VW, I have shopped at Rod East before. I would easily choose Rod East, they used to sell Audi and porsche there as well and I think they have retained their class from those days.

I don't have personal experience with VW at either, but a friend of mine bought his Jetta from Rod East and had a good experience.
I bought my Jeep GC from Ancira on Bandera, and that experience was fine, but getting Ancira Jeep on I10 to do basic warranty work is horrific. I won't buy from Ancira at all due to my experiences at Ancira Jeep.

my uncle purchased from ancira once in all of his 78 years here in SA --- he said he would never purchase from them again --- this was apx 4 yrs ago, so he was 74 --- he said he felt alot of pressure and upon going over his contract i noticed some things that he did not want --- extra warranties, etc... my uncle is hard of hearing, i know, he probably should not be driving at this point, and i had to go back with him to the dealership to get a couple of things taken off and refunded --- i asked my uncle why he purchased the vehicle or signed the paperwork and again he said he felt alot of pressure --- i kind of feel that they were using his elderliness (is that is a word) to their advantage ---
my neighbors bought their VW from Rod East and were very happy with the service they received ---

Ancira over Rod East
Hi, I have purchased a VW Jetta from each dealership so I think I can help you out. I was not at the deal closing on the first Jetta, which was purchased from Rod East in 2000. I had it for a year and a half and it was totaled when someone hit me. In the time I had it, the Rod East service department was helpful. I don't remember any major problems. Now, the second Jetta I bought completely on my own in 2004. I headed straight for Rod East, because we had a good experience with them previously. We made a trip over to look at them on Thursday, then returned Saturday to actually purchase the car. We were there for hours haggling. I can't remember the numbers exactly, but we were trying to get only $1,000 more off the car. They absolutely would not budge and neither would we. So we told them we were going to Ancira to see what they could do for us. When we got to Ancira we were met by MANY salespeople, which is normal for them. We met with a gentleman, walked the lot to see if they had the model and color, which they did, and we headed inside to make a deal. In less than an hour we were signing papers for $1,000 less than Rod East would offer with no questions asked. It was very easy. I have had no problems with their service department. Actually, my battery died a few months ago and my car was still under warranty. Ancira sent a two truck over for my car and changed the battery for no charge. It was very surprising. We almost bought another Jetta in March and we headed straight for Ancira! Good luck.

Let me add, you probably will get hassled by Ancira, but I do believe you will get a better deal due to their sales volume. I guess its a decision on which you would rather have. Also, when we went shopping in March for our potential new car, we never heard from Ancira again after we left so no pressure there.
