While I agree that the people perpetrating the crimes need to be held responsible if they are under 18 then the parent has some responsibility as well.

IMHO with regards to teenagers nothing good happens after midnight. They have no reason to be out other than if they are going to/from work somewhere.

I vote YES on that one...parents are not allowed to spank their children, teachers are not allowed to correct kids (there was a BOARD OF EDUCATION on the Principal's office wall where I went to Elementry school here in SA...and I tell you we ALL respected that bugger, just by the "war" stories heard!) and parents that tell teachers "He is your problem between 8-3, M-F" vs getting the tar wooped out of you when you got home after getting in trouble at school. We might have been "abused" by todays terms back then...but we certainly grew up with a HEALTHY respect of what consequences were....and knew that IF you ventured outside of what was acceptable, there was a price to be paid. Something the kids these days don't seem to have...no wonder more than 1% of adults in the US are in prision (in this Sundays paper, Belive it or Not fact).

The words "God help you" were KNOWN to our kids growing up, and they all seem to be contributing members of society vs problems and concerns to the general public. They were loved, we have great relationships now that they are adults, they KNOW how proud we are of them...but it was our JOB as parents to raise them to be GOOD people, and that takes some difficult calls sometimes to ensure that they understand the consequences of heading down the wrong path as teens.

I spank. Flame me. I don't have to do it all the time and it's definately not first choice punishment but if they are being really out of control they get spanked.

we rarely spanked, but both of us were pretty good at getting a hand on something before the kids even realized it was up in the air.. my personal favorite was the wrist squeeze. You can use it in the store and nobody knows you're doing it, but the kids definitely feel it... it's funny to watch them twist around, but nobody else knows what's going on.
It's even more fun when they get around 6 feet tall and think they're above punishment..

I have used the "wrist squeeze" from early on. He somehow knows that I mean business when when I do it.

Anyone familiar with Chankleta-Fu? This is the ancient art of slipper throwing. I swore my mom had a remote control on hers since her "one-shot, one-kill" precision was always something to fear whenever I made a run for it.

I used to get the slow, phonetic pronunciation of first, middle, and last name. This was the original "shock and awe". IF this didn't work, I'd get introduced to the remote-controlled, GPS-guided chankla.

All I know is that if I hear the sound of glass shattering in the middle of the night, someone is gonna have a 12-gauge full of magnum 00-buckshot pointed at them and they had better 'assume the position!' Whereas I have no desire to shoot anyone, how am I suppose to know this is just some idiotic kids committing stupid pranks or someone trying to steal my car? Texas law gives me every right to protect myself, my family, and my property; and as far as I know, no one has ever been prosecuted in this great state for doing so using lethal force.

I do hope these morons are caught, not only to stop this from happening any more but for their own safety as well. And any parent of a teenager out there who doesn't know what their kid is doing--especially at night--should make an effort to find out!

ha ha ha, never heard of it, but I like it a lot.. I had a third grade teacher that had the same accuracy, but with books. I was smart enough to never be on the receiving end, but I saw plent of them flying through the air and somehow always landing flat side againts the head of the intended target. I'm sure people would have issues with that now (because they're stupid), but it sure had its impact on us kids. From what I heard it didn't really hurt much, but having the rest of the class erupt in laughter at your expense was excruciatingly painful... and effective
