Default Meadow Brook

We've made it! We started our search for houses and looking at our price range (130's) Converse looks best. We didn't see much in Schertz-Cibolo or UC. Can anyone shed some light on Meadow Brook in Converse? We have ruled out Dover...looked a little run down (don't mean to offend...just an outside persepective!)

Neighborhood is going through huge changes. There is a lot of section 8 clientele moving in. The elementary school is grossly overcrowded, but isnt capped yet. There are a lot of "For Sale" signs up for a reason.

Let's just say, I have a lot of first-hand knowledge with that neighborhood. Drive around to the back part of Meadowbrook--check out the 'park' during the day. It's not uncommon to see groups of people smoking pot in the middle of the day! There is a ditch that runs through the subdivision, lots of interesting stuff happens down there too. There are still some military families living there but they are few and far between what it was even 3 years ago. Oh, and let's not forget the tenants who pushed down the fences in between their yards, to allow for their dogs to have more room to run, fight, etc.

I can't believe you couldn't find anything in your price range in Schertz/Cibolo. Yes, there are a lot more houses for sale in Converse and it appears you get more for your money, but there is a reason for that.
The Judson school district has been having a lot of problems lately & It's harder to sell houses in Converse. Behind Meadow Brook is a lot of Section 8 & along FM 78 near Wagner High School is where there was a drive by shooting a couple months ago in the middle of the afternoon and they locked down the schools.
Remember, property taxes are less in Schertz/Cibolo than Bexar county & you'll be able to afford more house.

The new subdivision Gatewood should be in your price range.

That's so true! When I moved here 15 years ago, nothing like this would happen. But after this neighborhood became filled with renters who don't take care of their property, this place is filling up with people who need to get their asses whiped by their parents. Have you ever seen the Summer time round-ups?

The best way to determine if a neighborhood is right for you is to talk to the people that live in the area and drive through the neighborhood at different times during the day. Moderator cut: soliciting not permitted

Since you are still looking, it is best to drive into these areas at the very least 4 times. Twice during the day, once during the week and once during the weekend, and twice in the evening. Once during the week and once during the weekend.

If the areas have amenities, make it a point to pass by those as well.

Thanks for the replies. We settled on a house in U.C. right behind the Forum in Olympia. We just moved in and LOVE IT! Great access to everything and 3 miles from work. Take that gas prices!
