I worked there in the mental health ward where you could only enter and exit with a code there were many strange occurances the 2 yrs I was there so I would have to agree that there is a huge possibility that the building is haunted

Dear sogoogoo4gaga: It is understandable that the place has unpleasant vibes and is probably haunted, if such things exist. There was enough misery in the Protestant Children's Home to go around - my mother and her younger sister were placed there from the time they were toddlers until they left at age 18 and 16, respectively. (1927 - 1945). Their stories are not happy ones - physical, emotional, and sexual abuse and general emotional deprivation. Many of the 'matrons' (women who worked in the orphanage assisting with the children) were people who were marginal in society and really had no where else to go. While some were kind, many were frankly unstable and inappropriate to be around children. As I said in my earlier post, I hope the place is razed. The pretty exterior always hid the cold and tragic interior. We took my mother and my aunt back there in 1990, but neither one could bring themselves to go inside - the memories were too painful and both women were made physically ill just contemplating their time there. My mother and my aunt were no orphans - they were dumped there by an uncle when their mother could no longer take care of them. They carried the emotional scars their entire lives...

I am looking for anyone that was or knows someone that was in the Protestant Orphan home. My mother was raised there around 1935. This is a awesome building to bad they can't fix it up to serve the area.

Hi my mother was in the Orphanage from about 1935-1945. I myself was in the children shelter that was by the Victoria Courts. I really would like to connect with anyone that has a story or that like u was in there.
When was this a Miracle mansion?

Patricia5549, as I have stated my mother was also in that place. She wasn't an orphan just her mother and dad I guess wanted freedom. What I do know is that my uncle doesn't want anything to do with that place but my mother views it as her home. She was just two when she went in and around 12 or 13 when she got out. Her father came and got her once she became a teen. She was in there with her other silbings oh, and cousins. I didn't understand why when growing up that my mom didn't know how to hug or say I love u now I understand. This place was the home of many children from Texas. My mother was from Luling, so were her cousins. I do have pictures of the place back in the day.

I happened across this website which I believe is the 1930 census data for this place. They list the children as "inmates". How strange

George did u know any Pettit's or Elliott's or Stapleton? Powell stapleton was shot at the orphanage in 1945. He had gotten out but went back to visit his girlfriend and was shot. i would like to now where all the children that died were buried.
