My mom too...one day I was paying for lunch and she walked ahead and was trying to get into someone elses car...she cried when I told her it was not my car. She is 80 and while I am sure your reaction was just a knee-jerk one, I would probably have reacted differently if an OLD man was trying vs some young teenager who I might have thought was trying to break in.

Well....not knowing anything about the boy's stick.....but SAGreed, you may have overreacted a bit, but it's understandable. Just cut back a bit on the caffeine, and enjoy the ride...........

LOL No kidding!

I tend to burst apart at the seems a bit, especially when it comes to the protection of my DW and children. I could care less about property as that can be replaced...lives cannot. I would rather apologize for my fly off the handle remark, when warranted, then to not stop something before it even had a chance of getting out of control.

[MOD CUT] How in the hell are you going to exercise the right to protect your wife and property, when first: He and his wife are inside the bill miller's they are in no harms way! and second the castle doctrine law does give you the right to protect yourself but inside of your car. In a situation like this I think he did the right thing by getting his attention. Secondly the OP just got over excited (as would I) and cursed but in no way was that an insult.

the op yelled at the guy, he regrets it, the person who, maybe accidentally, maybe not, walked up to the wrong vehicle. Unfortunately these days, we have to be suspicious. The op could have been shot at, it could have been a set up. There are gangs out there that use "older" people as dupes to test cars for theft. So as long as nothing more than a word was thrown, let it go. If the man apologized, and you apologized, people make mistakes. But, this aint a perfect world, so, we have to be on our guards. 9-11 has made us that way.

That's a little absurd, but OK.

Some middle-Eastern terrorists have not made me afraid of getting my car stolen at the Bill Miller's, but if they've scared you like that, I'm sorry. Must suck to be you.

I would have said loudly "may I help you?" to get his attention. Or you could have used some humor like "need some help breaking into my car?" Making him feel guilty would be my first line of defense in a public area. If diplomacy doesn't work, then...
