Definite on changing the mindset of your dumb a$$ criminal. I am all for it.. however, to dump in the negative side of this.. I can see this reverting back to the days of the wild wild west... everyone toting.. and killing at a drop of the hat..

I know there were rules on gun battles back in the good ole days... but these days? I dont see it that way anymore...

The same claims of bloodbaths were made when Texas started allowing concealed carry, none of which happened. If anything, crime rates decrease the more law-abiding citizens are armed. Forget the propaganda of the Brandy Campaign and other anti-gun organizations, and read the real truth here. Start on page 10...

Cheers! M2

If it's not happening in Montana why would someone assume it would happen here...."I know you are playing devil's advocate, don't take offense."

Not trying to make too much fun of the typo, I just think you hit the nail on the head without knowing it... only a cretin would disallow legal carry by a law abiding citizen.

i have ran into several people who are actually against this bill. they fear all kinds of silly things that just dont happen in real life. to me, in my everyday life, this bill protect me from someone calling the police and me getting charged all because i took my gun from out of the car and into my concealed holster and someone saw the gun.

now most police would charge me for that, still they could. in montana it is used mostly by hunters and hikers who carry a side arm, stopping for some coffee or gas ect. its not a big deal to see someone pumping gas with a gun on their hip. here in texas you would get arrested!

all the fuss you hear about guns is ALWAYS from people who never owned one, shot one, or have any real life experience with a gun. all they know in their ignorance is they don’t like them, so off to court they go. i wish i could out law their mochas, fancy wines and spa treatments, see how they like it. the big joke here is those things will all be fair game once you establish that the government can dictate anything they like...ugh!

almost any law they want to pass that gives rights back to the people, I am FOR IT!

Actually, if you learn the law you cannot be arrested for accidentally displaying a weapon such as transferring it from your vehicle or having it unintentionally revealed while concealed carrying. The law states you must intentionally display it with the intent to cause alarm...

It is under PC 542.01. DISORDERLY CONDUCT and the specific code reads: "(8) displays a firearm or other deadly weapon in a public place in a manner calculated to alarm;" (emphasis mine).

Many proponents of open carry cite this as a reason to pass the law, but if people just did some research they would realize it is not necessary. As I have said previously, I think it might cause a lot of people who aren't anti-gun but are fence-sitters on the subject to become so. Sure, it wouldn't be such an issue in places like Bandera; but in San Antonio or even worse Austin the sight of a civilian openly carrying a weapon will cause some people to over-react. I don't carry a handgun to be a deterrent; I carry it to defend myself, my family and my property. Plus, I don't want any bad guy to be forewarned that I am armed; I prefer the slight advantage of the element of surprise (heck, I’ll take any advantage I can get when it comes to gunfights) and that won’t happen if I have a six-shooter on my hip. I also think it will not be well-received by law enforcement agencies and I prefer to stay out of their attention span as much as possible as well.

So, despite the fact that I spent nearly a quarter of a century in the military and own a decent number of guns myself, I am not a proponent of open carry and if the law does pass, I still would not do it. And if people would just read the concealed handgun laws of Texas (http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/ftp/forms/ls-16.pdf - broken link) (dated 1 Sep 2007, but still good), they would know that the reasons being given for it are not valid.

One of the best resources on CHL laws is the DPS web site.

Cheers! M2
