I see quite a few folks here on the boards that transplanted from Northern California to San Antonio. Some of those folks who are familiar with the area know that Sacramento is the allergy capital of the world. ha ha

Anyhow, not knowing what I am allergic to, how do folks in San Antonio do with seasonal allergies?

Are they non-existent or somewhat mild because it rains throughout the year?

Thanks!

Dan...

I lived in Orange County for over 20 years and never had an allergy problem but after moving here, I all suffered for a bit. The Cedars seem to be a big problem for some.....I still have watery eyes from them after 3 years. One thing that was on the pro side.....due to the lack of smog, my daughters' asthma improved.

Yes, there are apparently a few problematic allergens in San Antonio....
Cedar being, apparently, the worst. That, I believe is seasonal... This is only what I've heard.......
But, I have been here nearly a year and, other than a brief bout during the cedar 'season', I have had no issues....

Re the rain????
To my knowledge, this rainy summer is an anomaly; it is not usually so.....

I grew up in Los Angeles county. I moved to Dallas in 1995 at the ripe old age of none-of-your-beeswax, and after I'd been there about a month, I suddenly grabbed and pressed on my forehead while sitting at a red light, thinking, "HEY!!! Where's my smog headache????"

I had a daily pressurized, grinding headache in LA County.... had a few seasonal allergy problems in Dallas, and we will see how this upcoming fall goes; it will mark my second year here......

The cedar doesn't really get me, but I do have some issues with the mold - and that's what's really high right now due to the amazingly wet summer we're having.

There will probably be an adjustment period where certain things bug you but your old allergies are gone.

Thank you everybody!

I used to live in Los Angeles until about 6 years ago and have since forgotten all about that smog headache.

Though, the smog has been getting pretty bad here in the central valley...sandwiched between two mountain ranges.

Grew up in that smog area (Pomona). I remember many days where I couldn't see the large hills and they were only a couple of miles away! Went back there last July to stay with the parents for a week. Smog is still there after all these years...after living in Texas for so long, the weather in S. California is boring...nice, but always the same.

Yes, allergens are high here, especially from all the cedars in the Hill Country nearby. Over the years I developed an immunity. There are lots of specialists you can see here until that time comes.

As a ragweed sufferer, this year's rains have made the ragweed pretty nasty this year as well.

As much as I love it here in San Antonio, it is NOT an allergy-free zone.

San Antonio was recently voted the second worst city in the country for allergy sufferers. The bottom line from the article linked below is that allergy sufferers can live here comfortably if they get appropriate medical care for their allergies. That has been my experience, too.

Well, it's January 3rd, 2008 in SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS and the CEDAR is off the charts!!!!
All I've done is blow my nose and sneeze for the last 2 days! My nose is raw as hell!
It rained all summer long, so the cedar is very healthy. This is the start of a bad cedar year here. I had to leave work early today to buy nasal spray.
