I've recently moved to SA. Can someone give me the short version of how to go about getting my TX drivers license, registering my vehicle, etc? What do I do first? Every state is so different...thank you!

You have to have the plates before they'll let you have the license. I found that out the hard way when I moved here.

dont retitle the cars here, just change the registration. i made that mistake, had to pay a sales tax! doh!

if i remember correctly they took my montana drivers license when i switched over to the texas one, that really screwed me because i didnt have a photo id for several weeks! so i would get settled first before i would do that.

If I remember correctly:

1) Get TX insurance
2) Get your car inspected
3) Register your car
4) Get your license

I think that's the correct order.

Insurance first, then registration, then inspection, they wont inspect it in Bexar county, (or shouldnt) unless its registered in Bexar County. The Drivers License can be gotten at any time. but is supposed to be done within 30 days of moving to new area.

You can't register the vehicle until it's been inspected.

Vehicle Requirements for New Residents
If you are a new resident and own a motor vehicle, you are required by state law to get a Texas vehicle inspection, vehicle title/registration and driver license. You must follow these steps within 30 days of moving to Texas to operate your vehicle legally.Related Links out of state, you're right, have to have the inspection first, last car I bought, they wouldnt inspect it until I registered it, but it was just another county, maybe because still in texas, so, thats the diff. But heres the link for legitimacy.
