One thing I've learned: where there's smoke, there's fire...so to speak. If they're grilling in the front yard, what's going on inside the house and in the back yard?
Any suspicions that there is underage drinking going on there? Any suspicions that drugs are involved? Those jerks sound like just the types who would be involved with illegal activities. It would serve them right if the cops busted them. And if there was evidence that such activities were involved, how interesting it would be if you notified the landlords, sending everything Certified, Return Receipt Requested, natch.
The more you can implicate them (the landlords) in sanctioning illegal acts by allowing renters to use the dwellings for those purposes, the better. I'm sure SAHA wouldn't want to be seen as doing business with them.
Can't remember if you said you're taking down license plate numbers. You sound smart, so you probably are.
You did great getting the towing company to show up. I wish I could have been there to celebrate your victory!

er, um....though I agree it sounds like these folks have some major issues and you should go the government agency route to address the landlords, I'm kind of curious what's so bad about grilling in the front yard?
Of course, I live in the neighborhood of house crawls, bands on the front porch and lots of community get togethers.

I'm sure they didn't have an issue with the BBQ, but there was no need for the neighbors to taunt them. I seriously doubt these people are anything like your neighbors.. we've all lived next to something like this and it's difficult to say the least. I had something like this and it lasted for years, but they finally got the boot.

As I said I fully agree there are issues here which need to be addressed. I just wasn't sure why grilling in the front yard was used as an example of the serious concerns. There's enough problematic stuff in there to focus on it seems odd to include that, but maybe I'm the only one who isn't bothered by people grilling in their front yard unless there's a safety violation.
My next door neighbors grill ALL THE TIME, and it sure does taunt me with the smells....but they kindly always offer us some

OK, I didn't mean to rattle anyone by saying that. My problem with them grilling in the front yard needs some explaining. Because I'm so annoyed by what we've experienced here I just ranted on without you guys having any background info with regards to some of it. Sorry.
My issue is this. They're not nice people. They're messy, they're rude and completely inconsiderate. When they grill out front we know there will be drinking (and yes, possibly some underage drinking - good point OWL!), we know there will be tons of vulgarity and we know there will be loud vulgar music on top of it all. (They were attempting to ROCK one of the girls babies to sleep in the front yard sitting by the boyfriends car with loud rap music on where every other word was B*tch or F**k - I am NOT kidding!) The next day there will be trash from what they cooked outside, the grill will stay in the front yard indefinitely (middle of the yard, lid open, garbage still inside, dirty utensils and all), beer bottles will be everywhere and we'll start to see roaches (which NEVER EVER happened over here until they moved in). I have seen a few on the sidewalk now and I've never had a roach in this house. They always have trash everywhere though and I've seen more than a few over near their home.
Our association has bylaws and rules against that type of stuff because of how small the front yards are and how close together the homes are because of the narrow streets. That's one of the reasons a front yard barbecue is not considered ok over here. My last neighborhood was different. The yards were huge and if someone wanted to barbecue outside, fine. If they wanted to cuss fine. If they wanted to get drunk and "act afool" fine. . . it was far enough away to where it wouldn't affect us.
Now were experiencing first hand why those rules are in place over here, because I have to admit that even I didn't quite understand at first. We just never grilled out front because it didn't make sense to when we had a nice big slab and a pretty yard in the back. They don't. They have a 10 x 10 yard (much smaller than most here), a pit bull who killed what was left of the grass and a dilapidated fence. I know why THEY don't want to grill out back. But that's their fault.
I got home from running some errands a little while ago and the boyfriend whos car was towed this weekend yelled B**TCH! I just turned around and smiled. . . a GENUINE smile and walked inside.
I'm leaving soon. . I could care less what he thinks of me.

I wouldn't touch what these people cook with a ten foot pole! They're probably immune to whatever it has by now but I'd end up with
"Diarrheas UNTIL Easters!" (sorry, I had to. . we just watched Nacho Libre for the tenth time the other night and that's STILL my favorite part!)

Thanks for the explanation. That helps me understand better. In sum 1. it's against HOA rules to BBQ in the front yard (I'd disagree with that rule myself, but if they signed the agreement, they're bound by it) and 2. it's not the grilling so much as the loud partying/disturbing the peace that's the problem?
Is that right?

You got it. In a larger neighborhood I'd agree with it and like I said, initially moving in, I really couldn't understand until we'd lived here for a while and the neighborhood was finished out. Then it was very understandable. If someone walks outside in the morning and farts, it's so close it's loud enough to wake you up. We chose a home that backed up to a street, not another home and we only purchased the house because it had a larger backyard than most. When we read the bylaws we figured we'd make accommodations elsewhere and we've done our part and stuck to them.
Also, in a larger neighborhood, if you wanted to leave your stuff outside it might not look so bad. This is a gardenhome type communit (or was supposed to have been) and I understood prior to getting here that those are governed fairly strictly because of the fact that too many houses too close together with too much crap out front looks like garbage.
I must be one of the few who cares though. Like I said, I'm outta here. My house will be up for rent in two or three months, max. Honestly, I'm prepared to rent it out to whoever. A NICE family would hate the environment and I have zero attachment to the place. It's not so big that if sheet rock or the floor is damaged it will cost a million bucks to replace it. Besides, that's what deposits are for, right? ;-P

LOL! Glad we don't have that problem. Our neighbors might complain
Good luck with the rental!
