Default For all newbies wanting or thinking about moving to San Antonio - READ THIS

This thread is nothing but FACTS and TRUTHS about San Antonio. All newcomers and potential newcomers need to read this to help their opinions about San Antonio.

WHERE TO LIVE -

The desirable parts of San Antonio to live in are on the North East, North, and North West sides of town. In these parts of town, you will find middle to upper middle class homes and people and a solid mix of races, however, for the most part it is whites and hispanics. Towards the NE side of town is where you will start to see more black people as the majority black population lives on the inner East side and SouthEast side of town.

The far southern parts on SA are developing into a decent mix but the inner South side and South West side is majority Hispanic and majority low income.

The far west side(outside 1604 and outside hwy 151) is middle class with nice homes, new areas developing and a mix of whites and hispanics.

The inner West side(inside loop 410, Culebra Rd, Callaghan Rd, Pinn Rd, etc) are majority hispanic and lower income housing.

The best school districts(in the immediate area, not including the hill country area, boerne or canyon lake area) are NEISD(North East), NISD(Northside), SCUCISD(Schertz-Cibolo Universal City).

Below are facts and figures from high schools around the area which also holds up for the most part in the elementray school and middle schools that feed into that high school.

Nice work. That paints a good picture of how SA is laid out and says it better than I could have in words. It would be interesting to see someone break down the zip codes by crime rate. That would tell a lot also.

Some what informative thread with which I assume you retrieved the ethnicity percentages and economic percentages from some sort of state site or a website that discloses said information. However, strangely you decided to capitalize TRUTH and FACTS when everything up to the percentages is opinion or personal conceived notion (mostly pertaining to your ‘desirable parts of San Antonio to live’).

And am I the only one bothered by the fact that this poster took a lot of time and energy (likely due to the entire city being basically shut down due to the weather) to look up and post a thread specifically pointing out ethnicity for areas of the city and schools. That’s all the post was, where the race lives and where the race goes to school. I mean that’s fine if it’s part of a greater package detailing other truths and facts concerning the city but in this instance it isn’t. It’s like promising a room set and only getting a mattress. What I’m saying is, I saw the title of the thread and expected a lot more than just city wide ethnicity breaks downs and the race and economic standings of (only) 11 high schools even though last time I checked there were more than double that number high schools city and triple metro wide. Bottom-line, I expected more from such a paroxysm title.

I am not going to list all high schools, no time for that.

The schools listed give a general feel for what races and finances are in a given area of town.

Although some like to pretend otherwise...

San Antonio is very easily racially divided in terms of where we live.

It's incredibly easy to see.

I will see what I can do for the crime rate stats.

Don\'t get me wrong, I appreciate the work you put into it and the information you put into it, however I felt it could have been more in-depth as opposed to just eyeball ethnicity listings for segments of the city and factual ethnicity/economic percentages for 11 high schools with the rest being personal opinions on the more desirable areas and best school districts. There were no truths or facts about any of that. Again, I just would have liked for it to me more in-depth than it was.

Man has it been freezing cold. Sorry, had to let that out.

No one is pretending I don’t think that SA is somewhat racially divided. But so is almost every other city/metro region in the country of the United States. Chicago with its black Southside, LA with its Mexican/Hispanic East side, Dallas with its black Southside and Mexican west side. It’s not a big thin really, people of the same race tend to stay near each other, hell, and people of the same sexual orientation do the same thing (Castro in San Francisco, West Hollywood).

If you were to view ethnicity maps for the top 50 metro regions, it would look no different than SA in terms of race pockets. It happens in high schools as well (I went to a high school that was 40 percent white, 32 percent Hispanic, 24 percent black, 3 percent Asian and the remainder ‘other’. And even with that there was still the white preppy clique, the black clique, the Hispanic clique, the Asian clique, the geeky clique, the jock clique and so on and so on.

I think having the largest Martin Luther King Jr. march in the country (100,000) shows just how unified SA is racially.

Well, as a person who is desperately looking for any info I can get my hands on, I truly appreciate the time you took to share this. It's very valuable to me, and I look forward to any other insight you have to offer. We are still contemplating a move to SA and are trying to decide if it's the right place for our family. Thanks again for taking your free time to help out total strangers!
