Thanks for the tip. One of my best friends from college is coming to town ext month, and I was trying to think of places to go that weren't around when we were in school.
Dolce is right around the corner from my office. We keep saying we are going to go and have a cocktail there after work, but we never do. We are also eagerly awaiting the opening of the Swig branch, but every time I drive by it looks like no work is going on. Do you have any insider info on it?

Not really. I heard they were opening in August, but with any new lounge/club...stuff always gets pushed back. I can't wait for it to open either. We need more people to visit the area.

Swig North
Swig North is due to open before the end of the month. It has been an incredible lengthy project and will finally be opening. Check your sources for Grand Opening "Sneak Peek" parties, I understand there is like 4 different ones. Cheers!

Speaking of La Tuna, that place is about to get busier.
Quote:
NRP Group LLC closed Wednesday on the purchase of a 10-acre tract just south of downtown, where the Ohio-based company is planning luxury apartment lofts.
The $60 million project, which will include almost 500 apartments and 20,000 square feet of retail space, is planned for the area just west of La Tuna icehouse, on East Cevallos Street between Probandt and South Flores streets. It is the first new large-scale rental development to be announced for the South Flores area.

La Tuna is expected to become the neighborhood hub, and NRP Group plans on making its project blend with the famous icehouse by adding picnic tables and planting trees on the eastern end of the property, closest to the bar.

After visiting Dolce, don't let the pretty pictures impress you. The cars parked in front are just that. The club....not so impressive. The drinks are 1-2 dollars above what I'd deem expensive. The bartenders are not good at all. The four visits with two different bartenders saw three different prices, a very botched order, varying prices on the same drink orders, and rude (I'd say obnoxious) service to go along with slow timing. How slow? Anybody trying to defend the bartenders in this thread should know I was second in line, and the person in front of me paid, and waited nearly ten minutes to get their three drinks, which looked the same. My two beers took five minutes from the time I ordered. It was not horribly busy in case you were wondering.
Music was good. Great sound. But the setup and interior is definitely "yuppie" as the previous reviewer suggested. I have now realized that hiring rude bouncers and bartenders to go along with your posh sofas is all you need to be classified as an ultralounge. The interior designer messed up I guess because the inside is not comfortable. There are three narrow "alleys" I'd say that are defined by long, lighted breast height bars that you put your drinks on. There is not mingling here. More on the interior design: It felt like they were still under construction. There's a big glass wall that looks out into....well, nothing (unless you count a blank neighboring wall).
...La Tuna (the icehouse everybody is mentioning in this thread) is great, but if you're looking for a place to see and be seen that isn't annoying and overbearing, please tell us!

I've never been to Dolce but I've been to a great restaurant right next door. If you planning on going to Dolce I would highly recommend visiting Cafe Paladar for dinner. My wife and I have been going to this restaurant since they first opened. The quality of the food far exceeds their prices, this a 5 star meal for a 3.5 star price. I highly recommend the duck entree.
