Default Rock Climbers ??

Hey,

Does anyone know whether there are any rock climber community groups in San Antonio?

I see there's a couple of indoor walls. Seems to be a bit of rock in the outlying areas.

Any bouldering locations?

Thanks,
B

I looked in to this when I moved to town last year.

The closest place I could find, altough haven't been to yet, is over by Austin. The place is called Enchanted Rock.

TPWD: Enchanted Rock State Natural Area

I hear it takes about 1hr.15min. to get there, and it has recieved a lot of good reviews.

I never did jump in and purchase the initial gear to get started, because I could never decide if I would want to commit to that drive every time I wanted to go climbing - which would also be limited to weekends in my case. Maybe I'll look in to it again.

I also would like to know if anyone out there has some locations closer to SA to climb. It would be nice.

Yes!
You may find some better info on the local scene at Whole Earth Provisions at the Quarry Market:
Whole Earth Provision Company - Outfitting you for the Urban Jungle or the Ana Purna
They have some climbers that work there and they sell all the gear.

Some rock is better than no rock. That dome at Enchanted certainly looks like "better than no rock".

I won't bother asking where the ice climbs are at..... Sigh. Guess I'll leave the ice screws home and just bring rock gear.

Guess most folks climb in the late Fall to early Spring when it's cooler. Bet it's hot on the rock in Summer...
