We have been looking for some furniture for our house and have heard horror stories. Not only the stories but when we look the furniture either looks super cheap or they prices are super expensive.
What furniture store do you suggest?

If you want furniture that will break your pocket check out Ethan Allan on 10 and UTSA. All the designers there are great people.

And if it isn't closed yet (signs were up screaming that the lease was up), there's a clearance Louis Shanks store in the old Barnes and Nobles across the street in the Fiesta Trails shopping center. We've gotten things from both locations.

We have multiple pieces of furniture from Havertys and Costco.

Motif, Ethan Allen and Basset get my votes. May check out Copenhagen in the near future too.

Yard sales

just kidding.

Haverty's.

I bought my couch and dining chairs from Lacks.

Just watch the sales ads. With tax time right around the corner I bet there will be some good sales at the furniture stores.

I went there too! They have some good stuff, I got a table with 4 chairs for $225. Unfortunately, the sofa beam broke and now I have that area supported by books and it was an Ashley sofa.

We really like Stowers. I think the prices are decent for the quality you get. Some pieces are more/less and marked down at various times. Maybe you could spend a little more for fewer quality pieces and then fill in with garage sale, craigslist, thrift finds that are refinished/painted, etc.?
