By the time I have to throw them away someone would have come up with some sort of a flux-capacitor that will use the mercury in an environmentally friendly way that will also run my non-electric lawnmower.
Basically, you got me. <-- See how I value other's opinions and don't have a problem admitting when I am wrong.
You also initially dodged a good question.....a true politician in the making! LOL!
flux-capacitor.....you should get two reps for that one!
I'm wondering what "Texas" has to do with this question.
When I talk to people in San Antonio, our definition of what being liberal and conservative totally get mixed up. Quite a few people always seem to bring up "oh those liberals" "oh those conservatives" etc. I feel like a dog chasing a tail.
I don't know if they really are talking about religion, conservation, war, guns, sky-rises, sex, or what.
I find it interesting that a lot of conservatives talk about not wanting the government sticking their hand in your pocket, but isn't it "conservatives" (and maybe it's a completely different group of people) who pushed for an amendment to the state constitution (and are still pushing for one to the US Constitution) that banned gay marriage? Isn't that the government sticking their hands into people's lives? What about illegal wiretapping?
And I agree with Ryneone...conservative means taking responsibility for yourself and not having the government stick their hands in my pocket or try to tell me how to live my life.
Right. I'm sure you therefore believe that it's a travesty that the Federal government has stepped into commercial markets to rescue Bear Stearns, and especially Fannie and Freddie, your bread and butter. I'm sure the government should mind its own business and let them fail along with the housing industry. Uh huh, thought so...
You really seem to have a fetish with me. I'm honored (kind of).
Actually, I think that the lenders got themselves into this mess and they should get themselves out. I don't think bailouts will help a thing. The market nationwide got overinflated because the lenders were approving people that shouldn't have been approved for loans, so they're the ones that caused this. The market is righting itself right now and needs to be left to do so.
The free market will always take care of itself in the long run.
funny this should come up. I was going to make a post asking people what it means to them when they hear the words conservative, and liberal. I think most people on both sides have a skewed view of the other side.
I was raised in a far left, doomsday type family, I was thought that the government was bad, the usa was evil, anyone with money screwed the working man someplace to get it. The wealthy people pay no taxes and destroy the environment. All that matters to those people is money and they would kill sick children to get more. The vision of the monopoly man in a top hat and a monocle sitting in their mansion whipping the staff all while laughing that evil Snidely Whiplashes laugh as they sit on a pile of money lighting a $1000 dollar cigar. Mmmmmaaaahhhahahahahahha.
I was also taught that EVERYONE should have a home, food, medical care, a car and enough money so they don’t have to worry about paying the bills (even if they didnt work at all and could) . After all, there is more than enough money to go around, if only those awful rich people would just let loose of their evil grasps on the worlds resources.
There would be no crime if everyone had enough, there would be no suffering, no wars, the air and water would be clean, and think of the things that could be invented if all the money spent on wars was used on research! Wow what a utopia, if only the evil republican conservative bastards would just let it happen.
Sound familiar to anyone? That is what I think of when I think of liberals. Its very emotion based, big hearted, well wishing, warm fuzzy feel good and absolutely not connected to anything real, rational, or in line with human nature in any way. I and everyone else wished the world could be that way but it can’t. Period. At least not in the way the liberals think.
To me conservatives are based in reality, I think of old farmers and ranchers who deal with nature and the real world a lot. They know if they don’t plow the field, plant, water and everything else, that they will not have a crop. If they don’t feed, water, and take care of the herd, there will be no beef for the dinner table. If you don’t work, you don’t get, plain and simple. the government cant come in and wave a wond and have your fields planted and half grown.
I see most wealthy people as someone who usually WORKED hard, took risks, sacrificed and EARED what they have. Yes there are exceptions, but they are just that, exceptions to the majority. I know many wealthy conservative and liberal people. by far, the conservative people are far more generous, grounded, and responsible. Not to mention happy.
Responsibility for ones own life is the cornerstone of conservatives. If you don’t like the way your life is, YOU have the power to change it, don’t look to others or the government to do so. Don’t have 5 kids, don’t get an education, spend more than you make, make bad irresponsible decisions your entire life, then blame it on something other than your own dam self.
I think of it this way, lets say 100 of us are planning to take a camping trip, the backpacking in 20 miles type. We all know that if you want something at camp, you need to put it in your back pack and carry it to the camping site. Conservatives, plan out carefully, weigh the pros and cons of what to take and how much they are whiling and able to carry. The liberals think only of how fun it will be at the top, and all the trees they can not wait to hug. Toss a few things in the pack, or load it with everything they can think of.
Now on the trail, the liberal is hating the work, the heavy load, and starts tossing stuff (if they even brought a pack) once at the camp site they have little or nothing. Dinner time comes and they all see the conservatives eating well, and making smores. A few of them even brought a laptop with a air card and have internet, it was a lot of work and very heavy but they thought it was worth the reward.
Now all the liberal people get together, call a meeting and demand the conservative people share, its not right, fair, or moral to let them go hunger, and what about their poor starving kids!!! And why should only a few people be able to check their email, what makes them so important!! The outrage!
When it starts raining and gets a bit cold, the conservative go into the tent they brought (because they took the time to look at the weather report). Those bastards! Can’t you see the poor kids out here freezing! How can you be so heartless! LETS TAKE IT FROM THEM!
The same kind of thing is happing in the real world. Again, there are exceptions and this is a simple analogy. But I think it gets my point across.. I could type all day on this, but the bottom line is what was said by others already.
There are traditions that work in the real world, things like earn what you have, respect other people, love American and understand why you should. Help people GET ON THEIR FEET not keep them dependant on the government. Motivate people to achieve, not receive, they will be far happier and productive.
wish I could rep kevcrawford and mtdave, but I can't right now. Those were some great posts. Too bad people don't have to take tests before they're allowed to vote..
But free markets left to themselves would have completely frozen the mortgage industry (along with the whole economy!). I'm glad to see that people claim they would have been happy to see their industry decimated (albeit from the safety of a bailout that they protest
