Default Considering leaving Cali, for S.A. TX.

I recently have been traveling the country on business and could not ignore the fact that California has to mann issue’s to turn away from.

I've been to TX and like the Dallas area, but I've been told that S.A. TX is allot like San Diego.

I have allot to think about, due to the fact that I have kids going into high school and leaving CA. where 99% of my family is, wont be easy.

If anyone could give me feed back about the S.A. TX area, schools, housing and neighborhoods etc....it would be very much appreciated thanks.

San Antonio is great place it all depends on what you are looking for. It is a growing city lots of people moving here from cali, florida, and the northeast. Its very much a family city, with many things to do. Its not not some super trendy city, it is a working man's city but people do take great pride in what they have here. Many people say that it has a small town feel which is great for some people but not for others. People tend to be more easygoing than most large cities. Best advice is to visit!!! Get a taste of the city, come eat the food, go to shopping centers, check-out different sections of town...that is the only way you will see what SA is about. Also check out www.mysa.com and www.sacurrent.com local papers to see what locals say about SA. Personally I love SA its a big city with a little country mixed in!!!

San Antonio is like San Antonio, not like San Diego. Its similar due to the large presence of military, but San Antonio is unique. You need to visit and stay for a while to see the pros and cons.

I believe there are several people on here who are from San Diego (all California in general) and recently moved to SA. I\'m sure they\'d be happy to assist you.

Cali = fast paced, party atmosphere, crowded, stuck in traffic, mild weather

SA = Moderatly paced, party atmosphere, not as crowded, stuck in traffic(not as long), hot weather.

If you want to work and live life in a moderate pace with decent folks and raise a family then welcome to SA.

If you want to live in THE BIG CITY, and be with the beautiful people in Hollywood, then stay put.

Hi Cali Kid,

My husband and I just moved to San Antonio 3 weeks ago to be close to grandkids. We did keep our house in San Juan Capistrano just in case. But what you can buy here and in one of the best school districts is 1/5 the cost of home.( our new home 3400 sq. ft $220K that included upgrades and a good size lot loaded with oaks and mesquite) The neighborhood we bought in is brand new and it comes with pools, parks and all new schools with an associate due of $360 per year.

The state still maintains the roads and yes property taxes are higher by about 1% of what you pay for it but you pay alot less.

The weather has been freezing but I guess Malabu had snow so what can you say.

People in general are extremely friendly and helpful. And from what I have been told about 1 out of three new homes sold are from out of state buyers. So that should give you a good and fast study of whats going on here.

Be sure to come during the summer as the weather in San Antonio doesn't compare to San Diego's wonderful weather.

Not many places can compare to San Diego's weather.

But I think our housing cost off sets that.

I agree, welcome back

We moved from San Diego in September, all of our friends and family are still back there and we do miss them. The weather is not San Diego but neither are the home prices which is what brought us out here. Also the city is not bankrupt and the schools are not complete garbage. It's a great move for a family, I don't know about single people. That's a mildly debated topic on this forum but it probabably always will be. On the flip side there are a ton of Caifornians out here. As in 3 out of 5 of my direct neighbors. People are leaving California in droves and moving out here for the same reasons I mentioned. Businesses are doing the same since running a business in California is so darned expensive. You will be seeing a lot of great jobs moving out here, along with all the people and the traffic. It has been said that it's much slower paced out here but I don't think that's going to hold true for much longer. Really, you'll have to come and visit and se if you like it here. And for god's sake do it in the summer. You don't want the heat to scare you away after you've already moved out.
