Back in the early 80's when I started dating my girlfriend (now wife), I asked my Dad where a nice place would be to take her out. He told me about how he used to drive up from Poteet to Capt' Jims on Military drive and how much they enjoyed it. He had not been there in years, but it was the nicest place he could think of that wasn't really expensive.

That was the last time I listened to my Daddy with respect to dating advice.

We arrived around 8pm and the place was filthy. Trash still on the floor, sticky booths, glass rings of water still on the tables. We ordered anyway and the food was horrible. Cold, greasy and wilted brown salads.

We laugh about it now, but then I wondered if she would ever go out with me again.

Two generations of memories of Capt' Jim. Amazing how different they can be in just a decade or so.

Well glad it all worked out. The same can be said for another southside landmark. They have their good days and their bad. You might have gotten there just after the unruly 6pm crowd left. Maybe they rehashed leftovers!
But, seriously I've never bragged about the place. You could probably have that experience on any given night anywhere. In the early 80's it would have been in it's dying days. I think it bit the dust in 86' or 87' about the time the new Wal-Mart was built next door. It had to have been around since the early 50's anyway. I'm sure it saw a lot of people coming into town on 281 from down south. I won't name the other place I mentioned because somehow It lives on.

Wow, that's weird. I don't travel too much for my work but the last two business trips that I went on was to Pennsylvania and the last one was too the Brighton area of England. Brightn is there any way you could post a pic of that menu?
