Question Teaching Jobs????

Hello everyone!!
I am just finishing up an alternative program to become certified to teach EC-4. Does anybody know of any job openings for those grades? (pre-school through 4th)
I know school starts very, very soon and I am probably out of luck. But, there are so many people on this board that know so much I thought I would at least ask!!
Thank you so much

Still apply at all of the major and minor districts in the area. E-mail principals directly with an attachment of your resume. EC-4 can be a little difficult to get a job using alternative certification, but its not impossible. I would definitely not forgo the small districts such as Divine, Bandera, Medina, Edgewood, etc. They have fewer applicants that NESID and NISD. I would also DEFINITELY apply at private schools. The reason for this is that many private schools don't require state certification, so they are less picky. But in order to complete your certification make sure they are at accredited and they have a certified teacher to serve as your mentor.

have you passed your professional exam--technically you are not certified until you pass that--which you take after completing your hours...
did your alt cert program have any type of student teaching with the classes
I just can't see anyone qualified to teach by doing a home study course

I think the OP may have been referring to the Region 20 program where someone with a college degree that isn't in education, can complete the requirements and be qualified as a teacher. I don't know the particulars, but I have a friend that went through Region 20. Try googling it for more info.

As for teaching positions, you can also try the private schools, if you feel you can work under their rules. By that I mean that many of them require some form of testament of faith and that you abide by their religious dogmas as far as teaching in the classrooms.

Alternative certification generally does an internship (full year of teaching) instead of student teaching. They also require you to pass your content area (and I believe the PPR) before you can begin an internship. (You teach under a one year provisional certification). Most alt-cert programs are not home study.

That being said, it is more difficult to obtain your internship as an alt-cert candidate. Once you are fully certified, it really makes no difference.

The larger districts will not look at interns for many areas. Your best bet is to pursue the smaller districts for EC-4 internships...

Well the best times to get a teaching job is in May and July-start of school. So right now is the time! Be observant of the schools you would like to teach for and go for it. Make yourself known with emails, personal visits (not too pushy), and so forth. Especially with the districts not everyone wants to work for - if you know what I mean. Good luck!

Yes, I am doing a program where I have to do the internship or teaching on a probationary certificate for a year. I do have my BA in psychology.
Thank you all for your ideas! We are very new to the area, Cibolo, to be exact. So, no, I do not know what you mean about the schools that may not be the best! If you do have ideas that may not be the most appealing to teachers near Cibolo that would be great!!
