Marrou is like the guy who stayed too long at the party. Any female anchor near his age would have been put out to pasture a long time ago.

Joe Reinagel uses "Va-Voom." It's what his wife uses and he borrowed it one day and still uses it now. He is a phone-in guest on the KISS-FM morning show with Lisle and Hahn on Mondays and Fridays. They discussed this in detail one day after the guys asked Joe how he got his hair to stay in place so perfectly, even in the wind. Lisle and Hahn affectionately refer to him as "Va-Voom."
It's funny because I find him obnoxious and loud on KENS but he is low key and relaxed on KISS. Maybe it's because he just woke up to do the guest spots.
One more comment on Marrou - I wish they would retire the Eyewitness News Reel. It ceased to be mildly entertaining years ago. I catch it just about every night because we switch to Letterman right after WOAI's newscast is over and KENS runs 5 minutes later. It is painful to watch, especially as the other anchors have to pretend to find it funny. Their forced, fake laughter must be written into their contracts.

I heard him a couple of weeks back on KTSA, where he and three other panelists discussed the issues of the day with Jack Riccardi. Joe has some very strong and informed opinions about politics and national issues. I don't necessarily agree with them, but his appearance there convinced me that he's no buffoon.

This KENS 5 is really, really hard to watch. I've seen much better in smaller markets. I think there is vast room for improvement... maybe they will!

Could you get more into this, please. I'd love to know what you like and dislike as well as comparisons.

It's most likely going to be a "personal choice" thing that you'll have to decide for yourself. I'm seeing these comments seem to revolve around the personalities more than content or format.
Channel 5 - Kens has not updated their format for a long time. Gosh...I remember the "newsreel" bit from 20 years ago. It's tired and corny.
I never have watched channel 12 other than during emergency coverage of weather or "on the spot" reporting. I can't tell you why I never watch them otherwise....nothing draws me to their programming.
Channel 4 - WOAI seems to have the best group of professionals across the board.....but that's just MHO!
I'm not big on keeping the faces "young and fresh" as some markets like to do.
There's a bit of security in seeing solid, professional and mature anchors. Let the young puppies hit the streets.

He (Joe Reinagel) was the traffic reporter on KTSA for a long while.

I'm also a WOAI fan. But I do like Chris Marrou and his ofttimes-flippant comments, usually because I agree with him! Also, despite what someone else said earlier, I actually think Steve Browne is the best weatherman in town, but yeah, I don't really care about his garden. And yes, I really wish all the on-camera dancing would end!

Chris Marrou. He can't go a single day without injecting his own personal opinion in an arrngaot manner
