These posts are all so informative! It's great to see people excited about what's happening in their churches.
I've been raised in the Assemblies of God, and I'd really like to stick close to that when I move to SA. Anyone familiar with area churches that are similar (pentecostal/charismatic) to that, and that have an active youth (teen) program? I'd love to get involved with being a leader once I get settled in.
Thanks!

If you are on the west side I would suggest you try Westover Hills Assembly of God. They are a bigger church and still expanding, lots of youth activities and a very charismatic church. The pastor is very gifted, the only draw back for me is the worship is a little out the norm for me but don't let that stop you.

I just came across this site and found your thread and had to register to recommend NW Hills. Being on Tezel, we are a bit off the beaten path but it's well worth it to give us a visit. And remember the construction on Tezel won't last forever - hopefully.

That's great, I'll probably see you around. Our kids always sit in church with us, so it's nice to go to a church where that is normal. And the traffic on Tezel seams to be just fine on Sunday mornings. I recommend it to anybody looking for a church home.
I also found this article from Rick Warrens website that has NW Hills testamony about going from traditional worship to contemporary:

Historic Churches
What about an old spanish cathedral style church? I just love the romantic and historic feel to an old beautiful church.

Well, figured Id chime in myself, we as I have mentioned in a few threads been here since this previous August. We are interested in a LCMS Lutheran Church, have tried King of Kings I think its called near Nagadoches and Judson. Currently off and on attending Mount Calvary Lutheran in Alamo Heights area, but its a bit of a drive, from Randolph AFB area. My husband prefers a very traditional type service as that was how he was raised(father is a lutheran pastor), so on a side note I was primarily raised Methodist and have not yet converted to Lutheran so we are also open to a very traditional Methodist church if there is one not too far from us.
To clarify my term traditional, we both like hymnal music primarily as we can sing with it, sight reading etc.
Any help appreciated.

I was going to start a new thread to ask some questions, but I figured I would just piggy-back off this one.
What type of teaching is given at Northwest Hills?
Where is New Life? What is the teaching like and what type of worship do they offer?
Are either of these churched spirit-filled, meaning do they believe in the baptism of the Holy Spirit?
I have been at my church for 18 years, but recently got married so my husband and I want to start at a new church together. Harvest and CBC are too far from us. I am also looking for something that teaches straight from the Bible conviction and all, as opposed to a "seeker-friendly" church that doesn't get down to the nitty-gritty.

Wow, a lot has changed in a year, for our family anyway! We no longer attend Harvest......long story, but that's for another thread....and Pastor Mike is no longer there on Weds. and Steve Garcia the best worship leader ever is gone as well. It must be like a completely different church now, but we haven't been in over 6 months.
Hope you find what you're looking for, chisco.
Did you know there is a branch of CBC on Tezel now--just in case you're interested in that style of church.

I want to share my church with you too! I attend Gateway Fellowship Church, Helotes, TX 78023 Its a new church that was planted at the beginning of the year. Its a different outlook on church because our pastors place a lot of focus on fellowship and building personal relationships - with them and within the congregation. The worship is contemporary, like what you hear on K Love. Although we are new, we have programs for children and last night we started a youth ministry!
We would love to have you visit if anyone is still searching!

What are the beliefs of your church? For instance, baptism of the Holy Spirit, sin, tithing, etc. We live close to Helotes so I would be very interested. Thanks!

A lot has changed for us too. We never really got connected with Northwest Hills UMC, in fact we never made it back there. But we finally found our place at The Church at Stone Oak. We've been attending for quite a while now. It's a bit of a drive for us, but it's worth it. Gotta run, but I hope that everybody can find a church home that they enjoy.
