I'm thinking about getting solar screens installed in my 1800 SF house. Can anyone recommend a company to install them? Also, any idea what the cost would be? Thanks!!

joe's aliminum shop, cheaper than that guy shawn on craigslist. joe is cheaper because he does the screens inhouse and has been open for 37 years. he is a good man. due to the rules here you can message me for his info, but i can tell you right now he is about $20 cheaper per screen than the other folks in town.

cheaper does not mean less quality in this circumstance neither. his clientele includes several police chiefs, fire chiefs, ex mayors, council members, and 2 members of the Texas Tornadoes

oh and price depends on degree of difficulty and size of screen.

So what do they generally run for a regular window. Maybe 6 feet tall or so?

that shawn guy charges $55 for a 28X36 screen installed or $45 for the screen alone. joes charged me $20 for the screen alone and his helper installed it for $10. not bad for $30

an entire home, two story, odd shapes=more. these screens are more custom and harder to install and means the price is adjusted accordingly. i am in the car custom business and quoting something like a stereo install in a ranger was going to be different than an install in a c class benz

Thanks for the info, quest!

I knew I wasn't the only one out there who was interested in getting solar screens installed!

I have *one* window that I was thinking about, but I've never actually seen a solar screen before and didn't know there was more to insulation than just putting it on like a bug screen. That's good to know though. I thought it'd be a bunch more.

We spent 805 (incl tax) on 15 screens for our two story house about 3 years ago. Went with the 90% fabric. The quote was based on square inches, but I no longer have the exact dimensions, just the name of the company. Windows varied from 48x48, 36x72, 48x72, etc.

If your kinda of handy, you can make them yourself. We did. All the materials can be bought at Home Depot or Lowes. I know we spent $45 for a roll of screen and it did five windows, the metal for the frame is about $3 bucks I think and it can make a screen and a half. The sales people can help you if you have qusetions. They weren't difficult to install either. Just like putting the regular screen back in.

I am pretty much a DIY'er. However, I have one window in the kitchen that has a top that is semi-circle. Any kits to bend the aluminum frame for semi-circles? my other option was to make a frame out of treated-wood.
