Default Does Texas Tax Free Weekend Include Computers?

We're looking to buy a new iMac and would love to purchase during the tax free weekend if it's tax free.

I tried a google search and most are saying that it's only clothes and shoes up to $100.? Is this correct? I thought I'd check here for sure.

Our last state included computers, backpacks, etc., etc.

Thanks for your help!

I can't say, but I've purchased my last few Macs through Amazon. Free shipping, no sales tax and there's usually a $100 rebate (easily submitted online) included. It's sad that I can order it from a faceless company instead of a local store, but money is money.

I agree! We love Amazon!

We were between Amazon (avoiding tax, free shipping) and Apple; however, we want to increase the memory of the hard drive and right now they also have a promotion that you can get a free touch iPod w/ purchase of the computer. If we could get it w/out tax we'll be okay going through Apple. If not, it will be $100. more and we'll get the iPod that we can keep or e-bay. I think it's retail value was $299.

I'm going to look into the Amazon rebate. I didn't see it initially. If it's not included on tax free weekend and there's the rebate-we'll go the Amazon route.

Thanks for posting! Do you have the iMac? Are you happy with it?

There's usually a rebate near the price listed on Amazon. It's not very prominent. I think I bought one of my older Macs directly from Apple because of an iPod deal. I guess it all comes down to who gives you the most for your money.

I have a 2-year-old iMac (and several other Mac laptops and a Mini) and I love it. I've owned dozens of computers over the years, but I'll never go back to Windows. Apple hardware is nice, but the operating system is what I love. Windows - especially Vista - is a nightmare that I'm happy to avoid.

Thanks for the link. Looks like it's just clothes and shoes here in Texas.

We'll check into Amazon again. Thanks for mentioning the rebate, Mister. There is a $100 rebate that I didn't notice before.

Thanks for your help.

Many states have embraced a temporary sales tax reprieve for school-related shopping in the fall.
