Allergist recs?
My boyfriend and I are moving in together and he's allergic to my cat. I can't get rid of her, because she's my baby. I know I'm a mean girlfriend, but I already made it clear at the beginning of the relationship that I wasn't giving her up. I've had her since she was found as a stray as a little kitten and had to be bottle fed, so yes she's my child lol. Anyway, to make the story short, he's willing to get an allergy shot. He's severely allergic. I've already tried allergen reducing shampoo, I've invested in an good quality hepa air filter, and I'm agreeing that she'll no longer sleep in the bed with me/us. So, does anyone know of a good allergy doctor out there? We have great insurance, so I'm sure any doctor recommended we are covered by. Thank you in advance!!

Has he tried Zyrtec? It's over-the-counter now, and my son's friend that spends the night is allergic to my cat--he can breathe once he takes the Zyrtec.

I went to Dr. Paul Ratner way back in the day ( late 90s) and remember him being good.

Here's the allergy doc I use. His location is not as convenient to me as some of the others mentioned above, but I'm willing to make the drive.

My son's Allergist is Dr. Dilley, the office is located near the medical center off of I-10 and 410. What a great experience! My son had seen several Allergist's and Pulmonary Specialist's out of state and not one was able to give us an effective treatment plan for his severe asthma. It's been 10 months and not one single asthma attack! Dr. Dilley is the best.

I'm also highly allergic to cats, and my former-girlfriend-now-wife is a HUGE cat-lover and had a cat.
If he's like me (and it sounds like he is), I hate to say it but you'll almost have to give up the cat if you want to keep him long-term. Allergy sufferers living with cats are subjecting themselves to major torture. When I went to her apartment I dripped snot on the carpet and could hardly breathe through my collapsed asthmatic lungs. As much as she loves cats (and especially her own cat), she knew that I couldn't live like that. She gave her cat to her parents when we got married and moved in together.
Allergy shots, unfortunately, do not help much. I took them for 15 years, and throughout those years I remained allergic to cats. It's not that they don't provide any benefit, but the benefit is small.
Best of luck! Be sure to thoroughly discuss the issue with your boyfriend, because this could be a very major issue down the road.

This saddens me because you're right. My mom will take my cat, but I just love her soo much. I know it's retarded, but she just has been with me when I've had a crazy life and it's like that was my only friend sometimes...lol. So, it's just upsetting, but thanks for the advice.
