Sorry, off topic alert! If you get a chance to watch KLRN :: Wings Over the Alamo "Wings Over The Alamo", I highly recommend it. Awesome show about San Antonio and it's early impact on aviation.

Saw it before, it's a great documentary!

Speaking of which, the Air Force Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Agency's Office of History recently released an update of its outstanding book called A History of Military Aviation in San Antonio, a collaborative effort by Air Force historians in the SA area. It's an excellent read if you can obtain a copy, unfortunately the source where I got mine is all out!

Cheers! M2

I'm not close enough to get the airport noise directly, but I can feel a rumble from the daily Fedex/UPS DC10/MD11/A300's...and I like it

I would call the FedEx DC10s the noisiest aircraft on departure that fly out of SAT on a daily basis. It's probably only a matter of time before FedEx phases out that model. The A300s, and even MD11s don't sound as noisy, to me.

The DC10s will set off a bunch of car alarms in parking lots under the flight path, when they take off.

I always chuckle when people buy homes near active airports/airfields then complain about the noise. What were they expecting?!?
SAT needs a asterisk, the terminal wasn't opened until 1953 prior to that it had been taken over by the military for WW2. As was pointed out it wasn't bought by the city in 1941 with jets even being a possibility. Northwood dates back to before then our neighbors house was built in 1940 by his father when he was a child, so I guess he can have a legitimate claim.

Even the FEDEX Caravan prop plane is a noisy sucker.
