Abel's Diner near Garden Ridge Pottery (IH 35 N exit Wiederstein & head back on the access road.) You can see Abel cook his great food. It is small though so you may have to eat. (Fri. & Sat. they have the best home-made cinnamon rolls, if they don't run out.)
Joseph's Storehouse (near the zoo/281 & Mulberry area) has a great bakery. Their sandwiches are on homemade bread. Great food.
Guenther House at the Pioneer Flour Mill & King William district is open for breakfast & dinner. You can also enjoy their bakery & gift shop.
(I seem to like breads...)

I think the new Babe's must be cutting into their business. I've only been to that place twice, in the last 4 months, at prime dinner time, and it's been totally dead. I thought twice about even going in.........usually when there are no cars at dinnertime, that means the food is no good. The burgers were big, for sure, but I honestly thought they were nothing to write home about. Maybe they've changed something, because I know people have raved about them for years. I'm not saying it was bad, just not as good, TO ME, as the hype.

Bobby J's is awesome - great burgers and certainly worth a visit.

But... if you want the best, bar-none, most delicious home made, awesome burger in all of San Antonio, you must go to Lords Kitchen. Don't let the name fool you - it isn't a lunch date with a sermon, but these burgers are, dare I say it, heavenly. Give 'em a shot and go very, very hungry.

We're gonna give this place a try - the menu looks good and cheap.

My Favorite restaurant in San Antonio is locally owned: Cafe Paladar I've been going to this establishment since they first opened their doors and have never been disappointed. I would highly recommend this restaurant if you are ever in the Stone Oak area.

I took some of my colleagues who were in town for a meeting and they couldn't believe the quality of the food. We travel the country quite a bit and have been lucky enough to enjoy some very nice restaurants. Cafe Paladar can easily stand up against most restaurants that are priced much higher.

With the opening of all the new restaurants off of 1604 I hope that this one is not overlooked or forgotten. Enjoy!

We tried Dough this evening. It was a little fancier and pricier than we were expecting, but very good. The pizza was good and the flatbread appetizer was excellent.

It was also very crowded, so apparently there are many people who like it.

I'm retracting my diss of HuHot. We went today at my son's request and since it was for his birthday, we couldn't say no. I must have gotten the right mix of sauce this time, because there was just the right amount of heat and they cooked it perfectly for me. I love it spicy, and I guess I used the correct number of scoops of the fiery one. 3 of those and 2 bbq. I really could have gone with a 4/1 mix, but 3/2 was fine.

I also recommend the cheesecake rangoon for a nice dessert. We all shared it, and there was plenty.

Default Italian Restaurants

2 of our favorite Italian Restaurants are Little Italy on West Ave, just east of Blanco. And Papa Dante's on FM 1976 just inside 1604 in Converse.
