A guy on fredericksburg rd
i was going through some old stuff and came upon an old brownie camera. Anyone remember a fellow (was mentally challenged) that would stand out by the street and hold up and old camera like that as if to take a picture. Always felt bad for the guy and made a point to wave when i would drive by. I think it was on fredericksburg rd or vance jackson...

you needed a "church key" to open a beer can, no tabs back then..Instead of warning lights for road construction they used those flaming round fire pots that burned kerosene or diesel....When we would visit relatives in the south, every night a truck would drive around the neighborhoo and produce a fog of chemicals to kill mosquitos. we spent hours running in the fog....what the hell were we thinking?

Wow---you brought back memories with the church key. And the fog truck. We used to run into the fog as kids in the summer! Gosh.

Our trucks and office were on Euclid, a couple of blocks east of Main Ave. We drove over to Metzer's (sp) and bought our ice cream from them. It was a summer job while I was going to San Antonio College.

My grandfather had one of the largest dairies (Yantis Dairy, from 1885 till 1922). He had 500 dairy cows and had horse drawn wagons delivery milk. Old man Knowlton was an orphan working for my grandfather. My oldest uncle wanted no part of the dairy and got into Auto business selling Ford's in the 1920's. Knowlton took over my grandfather's dairy. That's how Knowlton got started. Knowlton was later sold to Oak Farms. So when I go into Wal-Mart and buy Oak Farms, I am buying from my grandfather's dairy.
