Smile Info on La Vernia, TX??

Can anyone tell me about La Vernia, TX? We are looking to relocate and checked out SA this weekend. We noticed a lot of the new neighborhoods have homes built on top of each other with no land. We would like to have a little land, even 11/4 - /2 acre would be nice! La Vernia seems to have a lot of new homes - how's the area? Does anyone know of any other areas with fairly new homes that come with a little more land? We heard north of city between I-10 and I-35 is the place to buy but again, homes looked to be built so close together. So we thought maybe east of the city would be good to check out.

La Vernia is very quiet and peaceful.

You can't go wrong with La Vernia or even China Grove.

Bulverde to the north of San Antonio and Spring Branch are other areas where you can get good land, however San Antonio growth is soon to hit the areas hard, the beginning has already started hiwever in La Vernia you have a good 10 years before any more growth from San Antonio takes effect in La Vernia.

Nice rural area. Very quiet and even though its only a few miles from San Antonio and all the city lights, at night you can see the stars. Very beautiful.

I can see the stars most nights in San Antonio.

La Vernia is not all that far outside SA but it feels like a long way since there is nearly nothing on the parts of SA going towards LV.

I have been there before and found it enjoyable.

What about schools, shopping, churches? How far is the commute to downtown?

Thanks,
Betsy

I'm bumping this since it seems a little out of date and La Vernia keeps cropping up on our radar for places to check out...

Anyone have any new input?

Thanks!

La Vernia is a little town of about 1500 people or so, just outside of Guadalupe County, in Wilson County, so its different from the one that San Antonio is in. That is somewhat helpful for taxing purposes, (sometimes) La Vernia is a quiet rural town, hasn't had any popularity, closest thing ever was that The Doobie Brothers had a song about China Grove which is a few miles west of there, between San Antonio and La Vernia, but that was back in 1973.. Caterpillar is coming to Seguin in 2011, thats north of La Vernia, maybe 25 - 30 miles north of La Vernia, which may help the economy for them as well, supposed to bring in about 1400 jobs to that area.

I was just driving through there the other day and wondering why it hasn't had the boom like Castroville has had. It's a nice enough area, very close to downtown SA (for an outlying small town). Can't comment on the town/culture etc as I've never actually spent time there, just drive through from time to time. Lovely area. I haven't noticed a lot of growth.
