The White's at Goliad Rd./Pecan Valley was the first store that extended credit/a payment plan to me after my divorce (in 1979). Bought a gas range that I used for years & years until I moved into a rental property that had a propane-fitted stove in place (in SE Bexar County). A couple of years after purchasing the stove, I bought a 9-drawer dresser + dual mirrors (which I still have & use daily -- nearly 28 years later!
Just in case anyone hasn't picked up on it, my roots are firmly planted in SE San Antonio/Bexar County. I may just have to start a new thread on the misconceptions/misperceptions and the prejudices some people have about the people who live in areas of San Antonio/Bexar County that they have never even driven through, much less lived in (and I've lived and/or worked in several of the so-called "better" areas of town) and have personally confronted that same prejudice in the workplace.
I also remember the U-Totems & Jiff-E-Marts, as well as San Antonio Trunk!
Anyone remember shopping on their lunch hour at: Downtown Sears; Downtown J.C. Pennys, and Margo's La Mode (formerly at the intersection of E. Houston & Navarro)?
Also, the "hat" store (I don't remember its name - on Alamo Plaza)? It was there until the early to mid-80's, across from the Alamo?

No, not Paris Hatters! This place was on N. Alamo, across (directly? katy-corner?) from the Cenotaph. Currently, it would be (I think - it's been awhile since I've been down there) 2-3 doors up from the cut-through between Alamo & Losoya Streets.
Anyone else remember this place/shop there?
