Any comments on Manu playing for Argentina?
Why didn't the guy play for USA in the Olympics?

Um, because he's an Argentine citizen? Why would he play for the US?

Is he even a US citizen? I have my doubts that he is and I think that's a requirement here.

I suggest that a better use of this thread might be to discuss how he did in the Olympics and whether he should have played in the Olympics or rested his ankles.

It's not uncommon for athletes to play for other countries. Gasol played for Spain this olympics so Manu was not the only one.

He holds Argentine and Italian citizenship, not US. So he couldn't play for the US.

Wouldn't the same be true of a lot of NBA players? I'd gather Tony Parker has dual US-French given his American father, but there are a lot of other non-American players in the NBA who likely play for their country's national teams.

Out of the 28 current NBA players that played in the Olympics, only 12 played for Team USA.

I'm just praying his ankle gets better! I cringed when I found out he got hurt while playing in the USA/Argentina game a few days ago.

This is just my prediction but i bet manu ends up missing at least a month at the beginning of the season. Even if his injury isn't very serious, Pop will probably need to give him some rest so we can make the playoff push again. To add a little to this thread, Chris Kaman actually got German citizenship (his grandparents were german) so he could play for Germany in the Olympics. So i suppose Manu could have had the papers pushed through to become a US citizen and play on the US team. But I'm not sure why he would do that after winning the gold in 2004.

why would pop want him back soon anyways? the guy doesnt get hot until after december anyways. now they have a bunch of young guys that need to learn the system and play their roles. there is no better time than at the start of the season for that to happen. we need to look at pop giving bonner decent minutes in the early stages so that he can brush him off in a trade later on.

manu does not fit the status quo for team USA. bunch of young players in major markets. yes, even utah is a larger market for sports than san antonio for some reason. dont ask me, its just the way it works i guess.

the problem we have is that manu, mason, and a no defense/no show finley solidify the two guard spot, hill and tony at point, thomas and Ian at center, fab and timmy at pf, but we need an answer for bowen's spot. i like udoka's hard nosed play, but will he show up this season? i really hope so because he is also getting close to bowens age and his years might be limited.

picking up leandro barbosa would be a decent deal...a pretty good deal since we let him go a few years back and the guy has shown that he has a decent shot.
