Wedding reception place, catering for under 3k
I am looking for a nice outdoorsy reception/event location in the San Antonio, Austin, Hill country area (not picky). I'm planning on having 150 guests and would love to do an evening wedding, although at this point, having researched all the very expensive venues, it might be morning. I am hoping hoping, that I can at least get the venue rental (chairs etc) and the food out of the way for under 3k. I thought that was going to be a snap, but omg its seeming near impossible at this point. My sister got married almost 5 years ago and her wedding was spectacular for 300 guests for under 8k TOTAL! I only want half that and I don't know that I'm going to be able to do it for under 8k! Help would be very much appreciated

Oh Moonwillow,
I hope you get your wish for your wedding reception. Have you tried the Mosheim Mansion in Seguin? I think the owners name is Carol Hershy. It's a beautiful place with gorgous landscaping and unbelievable furnishings on the inside. It's on the internet under B&B's in Seguin. Take a look and see what you think. I know the owner is a hopeless romantic so you might offer your 3k and see if she can make it happen for you. May you have happiness all the days of your life.

You might look into the Hotel Alsace in Castroville. It just reopened a few years ago and has beautiful views overlooking the Medina Valley. I have no idea how expensive it is, but I would imagine it wouldn't be as high since it's a small town.

Try to do a search on this topic on the SA CD forum. There were some good suggestions not that long ago. I can't remember who posted it, but I believe someone recommended the sunken gardens near the zoo. It's a lovely setting and was unbelievably inexpensive. You will probably have to arrange for all the rentals etc.
Are you wanting something casual or elegant? That could make a difference....there are some places that are a bit more rustic, but might be more affordable.
Good luck and congratulations!

We had an outdoor wedding in the King William area of SA several years ago and it was beautiful. The wedding was at a home in King Williams, but the reception was at a neat outdoor facility called "Beethoven Halle" very close to the historical part of King Williams. It has white lights in the trees, small stage for a live band, and a sort of "Beer Garden" feel like Fredericksburg. It was beautiful, upscale but relaxed. We had it catered by Black Tie Affair and the cost for both would be in your price range.
Hope this helps!

What about the botanical gardens?
ETA: Here's some info, but can't determine whether evening weddings/receptions will allow for more guests. http://www.sabot.org/?nd=weddings

One other thought...The Guenther House has an outdoor area for receptions...and it is "Considered one of the city's most scenic outdoor dining spots, Guenther House was once home to the founder of the Pioneer flourmill." They also have a roof top area that can be rented for parties...it is beautiful and we thought about having our reception there, but decided on the Beethovan Halle.

We got married at Rio Cibolo Ranch in Seguin. Outdoor wedding and reception in October of 04. I THINK we were able to keep it in that price range. Not sure. Fantastic venue though.

What was the alcohol pricing at Beethoven Halle? I understand you have to buy beer and wine from them. Did you have a cash bar or run a tab?
Also, what type of decorating did they allow? Did you decorate a few hours before the reception?
Thanks for your help!
