Have you noticed a lot of panhandlers lately?
it seems very common here for ppl to drive upin their cars and ask for money. usually it's some SOB story that they don't have enough $ for gasoline or food, "can you please help us"? has anybody else noticed this too? do you give to them or not give to them? i don't give to them, period.

I typically ask them if they have change for a hundred. Unfortunately, they all seem to have it lately.

I think we're just seeing more of them because the weather is milder.
As was discussed in this thread, many of them are locals who make a living from collecting driver handouts. They stay at home with their AC when it's hot during the day.

I used to give them money until 2 things happened.
1. I tried to give a couple of them food and bottled water (as outlined on their charming sign), and they actually got mad. Hmmm...wonder why?
2. We repeatedly found hundreds/thousands of dollars stashed on these people when they were brought into the ED.

i can't stand panhandlers. they also run a safety risk zipping between cars. there should be an ordinance in san antonio banning all panhandlers.

Yeah, I just moved here but have seen them everyday at various places here. I understand some people really need the help, but most panhandlers are scam artists, and a lot of them make more than you and I on a daily basis. Maybe we are in the wrong profession

enforcing it is not an issue. our SAFFE officers have ticketed one panhandler in our area 9 times, but they are not bothered because 1. they have money and 2. they dont have a home or job to lose by going to jail.
