Worst case scenario for any hurricane would be a Cat 5 making landfall in or just north of Corpus Christi. Impacts in SA would be 100+ MPH winds that could last hours.

Thanks Anthony 100mph....wow!......how will it effect us being on the "West side" of a cat 3 or 4 with Gustav's projection as of now....being the Galveston/NO route?

Well, looks like Cuba's about to get hit with a Cat 4.

Evacuations from NOLA and Texas coast are already in gear.

I'm not looking forward to this...

Gustav's a Category 4 now. I'd say that San Antonio's likely to see some evacuees.

Here's a link to the City of San Antonio's Emergency Preparedness page with situation reports.

Office of Emergency Management

The most recent report includes the following information about emergency shelters for TX and Louisiana evacuees coming to San Antonio.

Quote:
The State of Texas has agreed to take evacuees
from the State of Louisiana and San Antonio could receive a portion of
these. The state has activated 17 shelter cities, including San Antonio.
The shelter operations branch of the Alamo Regional Command Center
has established shelters for first responders and is in the process of
opening general population shelters. Baptist Child and Family Services has
opened shelters for medical/special needs evacuees with assistance from
Metro Health Department personnel.

The Southwest Texas Regional Advisory Council for Trauma, operating out
of the joint City/County Emergency Operations Center, is putting together
2 medical assessment teams to help process evacuees on the flight line and
bus reception area.

Department of Public Safety Troopers are esorting bus convoys to
Beaumont and SAPD traffic units will assist with bus traffic at the staging
and reception areas set up at Port San Antonio.

The Alamo Regional Command Center is a collaborative effort staffed by
the City of San Antonio, Bexar County, State of Texas, and multiple
Federal Partners working with local Healthcare Providers, Private Industry,
local Educational Institutions and volunteer groups operating out of the
City/County Emergency Operations Center. Throughout the 24-hour
operations, there are more than 200 personnel supporting the ARCC.
Those with an interest in volunteering at the shelters will probably have an opportunity to do so if they end up with large numbers of evacuees.

Please don't show up unless specifically requested to do so. Generally, volunteers are organized and assigned in advanced. If you're on the volunteer list, you already know what's expected. While the desire to volunteer is very much appreciated, it is preferred that you register in advance with the Red Cross, and you will be contacted as needed.

The likely landfall of Gustav will be along the Central/Western Louisiana coast... this would leave our region far to the west of the storm in a zone of extreme subsidence, or sinking of the air. As the air sinks, it compresses, resulting in increased friction. In short, it means we're gonna get hot and sunny. Don't be surprised to see temps in the 100s in the next few days.

After landfall, models are in disagreement with respect to track. Some do have a hard left turn towards Texas and that could bring us potential storms later on next week from the remains of Gustav.

I should learn German since it's a part of my ancestory, but two foreign languages are enough to thoroughly confuse me and anyone I'm talking to in them because I tend to mix up words with languages..

anyhow, this puppy is now a CAT V (155 mph winds) and that's definitely not a good thing. http://www.breitbart.com/article.php...show_article=1
