Default All "order at the counter" restaurants N. Central SA -- and Mexican "order at the counter" near I-10/Hubner

I'm new to SA, especially the N. Central side. Can someone recommend a good "order at the counter" restaurant? I want a place to take my family that is affordable. I have young kids so it must be family friendly.

If you know Skeeters in Houston, it is the prototypical place I'm looking for. My wife also loves Cafe Express from Houston, it's more upscale but also "order at the counter."

Thanks!

There is EZ's on 1604 and Blanco (I think) - that is pretty good and has kids eat free nights (Wednesdays I think but not sure). Also MoMaks at Jones Maltsberger & Thousand Oaks (I THINK), that's a bit pricey but has play area out in back. Beefy's Backyard, off 281 north past Marshall, has a play area in back and extensive outside seating too. Jason's Deli, places like that...

Welcome to N. Central SA!

That EZ's location has been replaced by a deli, but there's a new one (opening soon or is it already open?) at Stone Oak Parkway and 1604.

Willie's and Chester's on 281 southbound near Thousand Oaks have counter service. Willie's is especially noisy and kid-friendly, with a play area, but the food is not as good as Chester's.

Incredible Pizza Company at Blanco and West Avenue is a very kid-friendly pizza buffet.

Default Order Up?

Yes, The EZ's at Stone Oak and 1604 is open (Finally) and we are supposedly getting an "Order Up" in the new shopping center at 281 and Evans. Never been to an "Order Up" but it sounds like a pretty laid back place

What's that place, over kinda in the Churchill area I think... Bitters and West Avenue maybe? I think it's the Hungry Horse, or something with Horse in the name.

I do NOT understand what people like about Order Up! I visited the one in Lincoln Heights and it was dirty, with trash on most of the tables and spilling out of the garbage can. The owner of the two (and now three, I guess) stores was there talking with another customer about how he got started... apparently he was a lawyer who decided he didn't want to be a lawyer anymore... which may explain why the food is so uninspired. Hmm. Tacos? Burgers? Pizza? You can get better versions of what they have at a million other places. And the atmosphere is about as appealing as a doctor's office. Is the fact that you can order all three in one place that much of a draw??? Uh, food court, everyone! Are people really that desperate??? I really don't get it. This place blows.

Fuddruckers is always good too - one on 1-10/Wurzbach and another on 410/Broadway (but this location is a pain to get to!)

Oh - there are actually 4 of them!
