POD Storage Containers??
Does anyone have any experience with POD storage containers? I am curious if they would be a better alternative to renting a storage unit. We have sold our house and are waiting for a new one to be built and will need temporary storage for about four months. Any thoughts??

We did that - it is pricey, probably more expensive than a storage unit, BUT it has definite advantages.
We had the POD come to our house. We loaded it ourselves but it holds a TON (we got the biggest one) and it is ground level, so no steps or ramps. When we were ready (a couple days later) they picked it up. It rained while it was outside so I know it is weatherproof. It does get HOT in there when it's outside your house in the sun, but I think they store them in a climate-controlled warehouse.
We opted to have them store it at their warehouse since storing it at our site was against HOA rules.
Then they redelivered it, we unloaded it, and that was it. HOWEVER they also will deliver it to your NEW place instead - so you can pack up stuff, store it, and then have it delivered to your new house, so you don't have to move it again. Very convenient.
My friend Packrat and that was good too - same concept.
So - YES I think they're worth it for the convenience and the fact that you can have stuff go from your old place, to storage, to your new place so easily!

We used PACKRAT's to move...exactly like PODS but cheaper and the guys were GREAT!!!
You get it for 30 days at a time...so you can decide when and where you want it. I would HIGHLY recommend them...if you DON'T use them, then you have to pack it/unload it, then pack it up again and move it when it is time...WELL worth the little extra to only have to pack and unpack once. I suppose it depends on how much stuff you have, but we would certainly use them again. On time, very nice people!

We had the same great experience with PODS. We sold our house about 3 months before our new one was ready and PODS was well worth it. Yes, it was more expensive than a climate controlled storage unit, but if you have a lot of stuff it is well worth it to only have to load and unload once. They are great about dropping it off when you need it, we called on a Monday to have them pick up and they had it picked up by 5 on Tuesday. Delivered it to our new house a few months later bright and early in the morning so we had plenty of time to unload it.

we are using a pack-rat right now --- super easy --- i really don't think it's that bad in cost considering all the convenience --- for the largest one we are paying 118.00 a month and for the first month we only paid $1.00 --- it was a coupon i got in the mail --- well worth the price, IMO...

Just FYI I also got a quote from PODS first and then called PACKRAT to ask them what they charged...they gave me a better quote than PODS, but was then offered an even better quote with some of the blankets, etc thrown in when I let them know I was "compairson" shopping.
Good luck...moving is NO fun, but much easier this way if there is storage needs. If you google the words packrat discount you will get a website that lists several different discount codes depending on your needs...since we are not allowed to attach threads here, just go to google and find the one that works best for your needs.

I got 3 months free at a self storage. When I called to get a quote, the guy told me that they were running a special where the first 3 months were free. I told him that I only needed the space for about 3 months. He then told me, "Well, if you are out by the end of the third month, you don't pay anything." My eyes grew wide. I asked how can they make money doing that. He said the owner probably is banking on that I will stay longer than what I say. So, that was worth it alone for me to doing the self storage thing, and it was near the house we were building so it worked out.
