Question Charlotte to San Antonio???

Anyone moved from Charlotte to San Antonio recently? We are considering this move in the near future and need some input. We used to live in San Antonio in 99. We really miss it. We just are not sure if things are still the way they were then.

How are the SA area schools? How about crime rates? Cost of living?

We are looking for real feedback from folks who live there now. We are considering moving in about a year or so.

Any help is appreciated!

Thanks.....

I moved from Charlotte to Philadelphia 2 years ago and now am moving to San Antonio so not exactly from Charlotte to SA but close.

Housing seems to be affordable but property taxes are among the highest in the country along with NJ & FL. You can figure on 3%.

We lived in Dilworth/Charlotte and looking in Alamo Heights' cottage district. The homes are lovely and very reminiscent of Dilworth. As for prices we are looking in the $500-600k range and that should get us about 3000 square feet with a two car garage.

Not sure about the rest of SA but AH seems to be low in crime and among some of the best in education.

Best of luck and please let me know if you need anything else. We are moving to SA the end of February 2007.

I have lived in San Antonio since 1990 and the changes I have noticed most are: More people (passed 1 million and heading toward 2 million), more houses (and growing fast), more businesses (and strip malls), and more traffic (a few more roads and a cloverleaf now at I10 and 410).

Alamo Heights is one of the more expensive areas.

Very nice area...you can get more for your money somewhere else in town, but you should be happy in AH

500-600k could basically get you a home anywhere in SA you wanted.

We have found a home in AH that is currently being built in the cottage area of AH. The home is listed for $470k, we are adding upgrades to the home that we think will come in at an additional $60-70k. It has a 2 car garage and will be 4br, 3 ba and approximately 2,400 square feet. Quite lovely I think, a bit smaller than I was hoping but nice finishes nonetheless.

Everytime I tell people of our move to SA it has been greeted with nothing but wonderful words about SA. I think the cost of living from both Philadelphia & Charlotte with be a reduction. There are many cost of living calculators on the internet.

Salary comps:
Philadelphia/$100k & SA/$78k
Charlotte/$100k & SA/$100k

The CNN cost of living calculations say that the following will be less in SA versus Charlotte:Healcare, Transportation, Utilities & Groceries
Housing is the only thing that it stated would be more.

Education seems to be very good in SA not sure about Charlotte as I didn't have a child while living there. What I like about SA as well as Charlotte is that both towns seem to have such a great strong Christian presence in the community; something that I do not see in Philadelphia. Many of the daycares are church based which is very new to me.

We will be in Charlotte on February 16-20 for a meet & greet the new baby! Our best friends there work for Moderator cut: realtor in Myers Park if you are interested in a great realtors. They know the market very well. The husband is originally from Houston and the wife is from Charlotte. Our realtor in SA is awesome as well and grew up on AH so she knows the tri-cities well.

Good luck!
