NHC Track hits Freeport. Still too early to be out of the woods completely, folks. But it is certainly looking better for us.
Houston on the other hand really needs to prepare for a true disaster.

It depends how far east. We can certainly see tropical storm force winds even if this storm hits Houston as the wind field surrounding is just incredibly large. On satellite imagery... Ike is the size of Texas.
However, this storm can still track west. This is a very strong statement coming from the NHC regarding the uncertainty I discussed in an earlier post.
Quote:
AND SINCE IKE WILL BE
ROUNDING THE RIDGE AND NOT GOING IN A STRAIGHT LINE BETWEEN 48 AND
72 HOURS...ONE SHOULD NOT FOCUS ON THE EXACT TRACK. EVERYONE IN
THE HURRICANE WATCH AREA [Port Mansfield to Port Arthur] HAS ABOUT THE SAME RISK OF HURRICANE
CONDITIONS.

God only know, hello....oh, wait...yeah
Have you ever seen footage of a hurricane? How much more specificity do you need?

Comal is a receiving site for coastal county evacuations.
Schools don't like it, but it's hard to get other locations for shelters.

So true. And tomorrow morning we could wake up and find Ike heading right back towards San Antonio. We will really never know until Ike actually makes landfall.
But we are prepared, just in case.
Thanks Anthony!

From a personal perspective, I'd really prefer it went that way - our massive tree trimming/removal is next week, so we currently have dangerous hanging tree limbs over our house impossible to get to without proper equipment...
From an emergency management perspective, hitting Houston will be a nightmare for all of us. Not to mention bad for all Houstonians and people on Galveston Island.

Look on the bright side, if Ike hits N.B., and surrounding areas, we might not have any trees left to be trimmed!
