Looking for a campsite for four age 30ish men...
We are close with 4 couples, and three of the couples are expecting their first child this fall/winter! (fun, huh?!) The men would like to have a PBP (Pre Baby Party) lol, bc they know it's going to be a looong time before we (the wives) let them off for the weekend. They're looking for a good campsite where they can drink a few beers, maybe play some poker (so might need some electricity, not a complete necessity though) and just basically do their own thing without being bothered. My husband might like to being his well behaved dog, who would be off leash but listens well. Again, not a must...
I'm not sure if they're planning on fishing or anything. They just want a "guys' night away." Any suggestions? This would take place later this month or possibly early Oct. They would like to keep the campsite within a 1-2 hr drive from SA.
Thanks for your thoughts!!!

Garner State Park is a beautiful place to camp. I went there two weekends in a row last month. It's about 80 miles from San Antonio, if you take Loop 16 out there it's all Hill Country and is one of the most beautiful drives in the state. You drive through Bandera, a real Texas Cowboy town.
Garner State Park is on the Frio River; blue, clear water; large trees provide plenty of shade along the banks near the dam. They have all sorts of campsites; with electricity, cabins, etc. I can't emphasize enough that this is one of the nicest places to go to swim, see nature, go camping. It's a good idea to make a reservation online, the place is packed in the summer. Maybe not so much now since kids are back in school. Not sure about their pet policy, but you can check out more info on the park website.

The family always loves to take our Travel Trailer to Koyote Ranch on highway 15, about 1 hour away. THey have cabins, tent sites, RV parking, bed and breakfast too. Nice pool and a few ponds. Great hiking and they do have some campsites way on top of the hill with water /electrictiy. A really nice pool. If the wives decide to go for a visit there is a spa across the street. Koyote Ranch also has a Restaurant which serves up beer and music/wine:

There is also Guadalupe State Park too. Some of it has electricity and water, other sites are more primitive. They also allow dogs...

That would be my vote for them. It has that "woodsy" feel to it. Make them feel like real men!!

Excellent suggestion.
RE: Guadlupe State part is also a great selection, but call now about details re the conditions of the park. I may be in a brain fog, but I remember something about reconstruction or the park limiting access in the recent past. It may be fine now.....just FYI.

Just tell them to keep it low and hidden. As with the dog. I would say a lot of campers at the parks drink, your just not allowed to show it. Be respectful of others and they will have great time!

It states "no public consumption of alcohol". We have never had a problem with drinking alcohol at our campsite until this summer. OMG!! It was bad. We were at a SP in Junction (I can't remember the name of it). The ranger would come up to our table if we had a beer in a koozie!!! I don't know how he could tell it was a beer from the 1/2" of can sticking out the top, but he did .
He drove by and I was pouring a coke into a glass and he slid his truck to a stop and jumped out (while the truck was still rolling) and ran over to me. He looked at the coke can and said "oh, it's only a coke". Little did he know the good stuff was already in the glass .
He would even walk around the park so he could sneak up on you. He went to the camp across the street from us and told them something. They were a bunch of young (20ish) people. One of the young men popped off and the ranger wrote him a ticket!!
Your friends should be ok though, like I said this was only at this one particular park that this has ever happened to us. I think he was just a "power hungry" ranger. I understand he was doing his job but it wasn't like we were dancing in the street naked!!
