Default Speaking of Grocery Shopping

The topic on HEB made me think of how much I honestly HATE grocery shopping. I know there are a lot of cities that have online shopping. Does anyone have any exposure to online grocery shopping? Sometimes I'm in line and I see a little elderly lady and she's just doing all she can to struggle to pick up a few things and get through the stores. Some are just flat out intimidated or confused to use the riding shopping carts. At least a service for seniors would be a start. (I'm not there yet!.....just whining because I have too many stairs to carry up groceries!)

I'm just curious......I've written HEB.....and they politely respond very quickly that they are considering it but no dates.

Living downtown would be great like the flats in Europe with a little grocer every couple of blocks. Just stop in and pick up daily fresh groceries and a bottle of wine for an evening meal. Sounds so simple and lovely!

Is there a Randalls in your area? Randalls is the same store as Safeway, and I know that Safeway in Seattle did online ordering.

I met a lady at church once who had her own private service to help people who couldn't get out on their own.

I wonder the same thing when I see people who ride the bus and don't live close to a grocery store. Grocery delivery would be a good thing for many people it seems.

I know, SA is very far behind other cities in these types of senior services. Grocery delivery would be great. I have senior relatives for whom the slow, country pace of San Antonio would be perfect, but there are limited services for them to get around, etc. I think they would just die in one of those new, cracker box assisted living complexes that are apparently being built. I guess hard choices must be made. Grocery and pharmacy delivery would help a lot. Maybe someone reading this will start something as more retirees may at some point move to SA.

Jenbar....we don't have Randalls in SA....but they are in other Texas cities.

Hello13965.....I think you're right about the services lacking for seniors here.
But there really are a LOT of retired residents in SA.....so it doesn't make sense. Lots of military come back to SA to retire. My mother is 83 and I have scoured a lot of services available to help her out. My problem with her is that she is pretty stubborn. She still drives (safely I might add...just not on the freeway)....and does her own shopping by choice. It's a chore, but she says if she doesn't get out everyday then she'll just shrivel up and die.

On the other hand, when she does need assistance occasionally, there's not much to pick from unless the individual uses some social services...which in my mother's case....she just won't.

(I mean to say that my mom doesn't drive on the freeway at all!....not that she drives on it unsafely!)

mjr7025 is on a distinguished road
Smile Grocery, Dry Cleaning, etc... Delivery is finally HERE!!!!!!

Well hello to all... i came across this thread while i was searching for online groceries myself... and realized that I'm not the only one looking for this. I'm not a senior nor a retiree.. but i'm a single mom with two toddlers (1yr and 2yr olds) and i don't have a car.. i get around with a car three days out of the week when i borrow from family but other than that i'm pretty much confined to my apartment and the convenience store and CVS Pharmacy on the corner. about a 5 minute walk but sometimes i need real groceries... and pushing a double stroller all the way to the store would be no problem if only my neighborhood had sidewalks... which seems weird for me since i don't live in a bad neighborhood... DeZavala and I-10... well enough about that... i finally got a car and my kids finally walk so it's a lot easier to go shopping... but i decided to start my own little Delivery service for all those who need it... my website is still in the works but you can contact me thru email for now and i will give you info if you need... i do groceries... no limit.. from either H-E-B or Walmart whichever your preference... I also pick up Dry Cleaning and do pick up as well... i can pick up take out and deliver... let me know and i can help... my rates are not flat... yet.. but i'm gettin there... however they are very cheap... i'd say the cheapest you'll find in san antonio. so let me know how i can help you... How do you do a delivery service if you don't have a car?
