I always see the commercials for the Clinical Studies in San Antonio.

Has anyone here participated? What was your experience?

I was looking at the Cedra website, and it seems like some of them pay really well, so my curiosity was piqued

No but we do them all the time at work. Some pay very well. I tried to get the dh in for an asthma one but his asthma was too well under control, how sad is that? I work for a diabetes clinic and we are always looking for diabetics for our studies. The pay ranges any where from a few hundred to a few thousand. Not bad for not a lot of effort and free health care and meds.

Here's one, sunshine:
Current San Antonio Clinical Research Studies by Clinical Trials of Texas, Inc.

And another:
http://www.centerwatch.com/patient/trials.html

A friend of mine let his son do a very lengthy asthma/allergy one, and the kid ended up with enough money over the years to buy his first car at 17. Granted, he was a guinea pig, but he's none the worse for the wear.

*well, at least, so far he's none the worse for the wear* I hope they didn't do anything to harm him, but I guess that's one of the risks.

i never got to do one for them but contacted Centerwatch about one for migraines and was told that mine werent often enough for the trial they were working on at the time. Apparently 2-3 times a month was too few lol But if it looked like something that could be helpful sure Id try them again. I may look up here see what kinds they have come to think of it.

They have them usually listed in the newspaper. The company I work for spun off their research and sold it to Cetero. Just Google Cetero or Cedra research San Antonio and the research studies come up. Google pops up some wonderful stuff. You can refine your search by adding key words like asthma, diabetes, allergy, migraine, smoking, or sleep study or whatever you'd like to be your study of choice. If they don't have a study you're eligible for right now they put you in their database and call/contact you later when other studies come up. They are really great about that.

Saw one today in one of those freebie Employment papers you find at the corner stores, and it was a 16 week smoking cessation study, with 14 days of that inpatient, paying like $4200 or something! If anyone wants details I can look for the paper.

I did a Cedra research study in Austin about 5 years ago. It was the wisdom tooth medication study. You either got a placebo or your got pain medication. WORSE EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE! I am not exaggerating or joking. I have never known anyone who has gone through what I, my cousin and others in the room went through. We were given laughing gas and a local anesthetic. I could feel every shot, cut, pull and crack during the entire process. As soon as they were finished cracking and removing all four of my wisdom teeth, I was immediately ushered into a room of waiting recliners. We had to wait for 5 or 6 hours, depending on your case. I was in that stupid recliner throwing up, freezing my butt off and in extreme pain. On the drive back to S.A. I was so sick to my stomach and had blood dripping down my mouth onto my shirt. I can't even give an accurate description of how bad it was. To this day I shudder when someone says they are going to get their wisdom teeth pulled. All of that for a whopping $250! I would have paid a $1,000 to know what I know now!

Yea I agree with the CEDRA comment, I've only heard bad things. As for Clinical Trials of Texas, I've heard some good things. My brother particpated in one of their depression studies and he found it to be really helpful both for his depression as well as compensation wise.
