MW was the ultimate Christmas store. They even invented Rudolph. I read it somewhere.

I only wish my kids could have been inside a Ward's store...The clerks, cashiers, etc. were all people from the immediate area. Young and old....

Wards was more like Sears. When I worked for Sears as a teenager they used to say don't mess up or you'll go work for Wards (some said back then Wards was a poor version of Sears).

I'm friends with the security guard at the Westlakes Mall area, he let me see the old Wards area and it STILL has all the original tiles! You can see where the different sections of Wards was (electronics, clothing, etc) the old auto bays are still there, and there's even some displays and racks from Westlakes Mall in there. Growing up in the 80s', my parents always took me there, so I have a special place in my heart for that mall. And I loved the pretzels you could get when you walked from Target into the mall!!

[I'm talking about a timeframe of late 80's--it was always bustling and vibrant at that time. ]- sapphire that's the timeframe I always think of when I remember Westlakes; mid-late 80s. Anyone remember the life-size cut-out of pop singer Tiffany in Hastings? It was against the back wall.

I was in high school when Westlakes Mercado opened. Our Student Council unpacked their xmas decorations to earn money. It had to be renamed because El Mercado downtown threatened to sue because they thought people might confuse the two. Really dumb.

I worked at both the Chick-fil-a and the game room. It was a great neighborhood mall and a cool, local place to hang out. There wasn't a whole lot going on there. Chick-fil-a was a bright spot, being one of 3 in town at the time. When they opened stand-alone stores this one must have folded up, too.
