Hey everyone, Tycoon Flats is back! The soft opening is tonight from 7-10pm, then they'll be closed all weekend and officially open for business on Monday.

For those folks who remember from a long time ago (I'm showing my age) Flats used to be a really family-friendly, low-key, fun place to go have a great burger (mmm... nachoburgers), a frozen margarita that would knock you on your butt, listen to some low-key music, all while watching everyone's kids play together on the playground. When St. Mary's strip suffered in the 90s & 00s due to gang activity and neighborhood strife, Flats struggled along. They changed management and kept the doors open by becoming a place for White Rabbit's overflow, but lost all the cool, laid-back vibe of their earlier years. They finally closed for good a couple years ago, I think.

The new owners are great community-friendly folks (a la Cheesy Janes & DoubleDaves), so go check it out. I think my margarita is already on the bar.

Sounds great. Do they have a website up? I remember a lot of good times at Tycoons. I wonder what the music lineup will be like. I did a google for them but came up empty handed.

The owner told me today that they're trying to keep a low profile for now since they're just opening the doors and you know how things are when you first open... everything's crazy trying to get the kinks out of the operation. There are a lot folks like you and me who remember Flats with a lot of nostalgia and that'll keep the place busy for a while, but I'm guessing they'll start marketing sometime soon.

Damn...I wish I had known earlier. I really enjoyed that place. I'll be sure to rustle up the old crowd and make a visit. It used to be a regular place for Wednesday night hangout. I hope the burgers are still as good. Nuttin like a burger with a Rita at Tycoon Flats.

My nephews band has played there the past two summers so it hasn't been closed. (not this summer) they had made changes to the outside patio though.

Place looks cleaner, but WHY did they remove the gravel and fire pit in the back?? That really gave the place atmosphere.

It's on the St. Marys Strip west of 281.

I guess that is St. Mary's St.? I'm totally not familiar with downtown and I avoid it like the plague, but this place sounds interesting.
