I know there was a battle over this a while back between protesters and developers but what is the word on this? Is the PGA going to build a resort or not? I never heard the final word on this situation so any help is appreciated.

Yes, it's coming. The PGA of America eventually dropped out because of the community conflict. Then the PGA Tour picked it up and got it approved. Not sure of the latest details, but its definitely being built. there are thousands of homes going up all around it.

That's really ashame. I wish there would be some virgin territory in the county to remain. The Cibalo basin right there has some ancient history along the river banks up in the canyon. Rock paintings, lots of arrowheads and relics. I hope they preserve that area somehow. I know they have done this just South of Canyon Lake dam. You can only access it with a tour guide. Otherwise it will be pilfered and destroyed.

I'm appalled at how much of the land in San Antonio and the surrounding countryside is being developed and at such an alarming rate too. I no longer live in S.A. and whenever I go there to visit my folks, which is usually once a year, I always see new buildings in former natural areas of land. There are parts of town I barely recognize that only ten years ago weren't even considered as part of the city. But its just land, right? I know what the developers probably say- "Look at all that land right there going to waste doin' nothing. We could be building houses, shopping centers and car lots selling Hummers. It'd be perfect for a highway too. There's plenty of room to make some money off all these old mesquite and deer-filled ranch lands."

PGA no way. Bad idea. But hey, its just an aquifer, right? Not to mention it'll provide a great service-industry(subservient) type of job for little pay, right? San Antonio certainly doesn't need another golf-course or anything else sports related ie. Alamodome/SBC Center. What the city needs is more green space and more education.

When people who've never been to S.A. ask me what the city is like I tell them it's got plenty of history, good flavor and is very laid-back, but it's also grown alot and continues to do so.

One of the things that I do not miss about San Antonio/Texas is the need for an automobile just to go to the corner store. Before I ever had a car I used to take the bus everywhere. In doing so I'd have to [gasp!] walk about quite abit too. People in their cars at the stoplight would always look at me like I was some kinda freak.

As a kid I remember seeing this in elementary school. It's a film that's not shown enough anymore-

I would rather have a golf resort that can be regulated vs lots of homes that are not.

Was going to say the same thing.

As for the whole "needing an automobile" thing, lets just say the city has nothing to do with that. In todays day and age, people WANT the freedom that having your own car brings. Who the heck wants to wait around at a bus stop in order to get somewhere? Nobody that I know.

You should drive to West Texas, lots of undeveloped land. I have to agree, if PGA Village weren't going in it'd be more houses. *cough* Maybe if we had some sort of light rail! *cough*

I heard from someone very reputable (two different club pros in SA) that Joe Citizen won't be able to play the TPC San Antonio courses. They are supposedly going to be reserved for the guests of the hotel.

I am not from SA so I can't tell you whether or not that is how Hyatt Hill Country and La Cantera started, but I sure hope that they did and realized very soon that the people of San Antonio want to play and will pay good money to do it. I just don't want to have such a crown jewel and enver be able to play it.

Thoughts?

It's like that at a lot of the courses in Las Vegas. Only guests of the hotel can play the Wynn golf course, and the MGM group of hotels has two private courses they drive people out to.

You could always take a weekend away and stay at the hotel. We've done that at the Hyatt and had a great time getting away on short notice.
