Barbacoa looks a lot like pot roast to me. Can someone fill me in on this dish?

A quick search on google revealed the following. Never mind, I don't like cow heads...

I've eaten it..........

It's very greasy to me. I just can't develop a liking for it, and since it's not good for you anyway, I'm OK with that. I know it's extremely popular here, though.

An easy fix. If I think it's too greasy (if there is such a thing...*lol*), I just soak up the excess with paper towels. At the very least, it won't mush up your tortilla!

Yeah, you must have had chimichangas in SA and I agree, they are blechhhh!!!

Barbacoa may be prepared with parts from the head of a cow (cabeza), with goat meat, lamb, or pork. I don't know what you had or where you had it, but you should have tried Gallegos on Venice Blvd.

By the way, sorry if the truth hurts, but I was anwering to voyager674s question on "SA is truly unique, isn't that why everyone moves here???" NOPE, it's more like cause the cost of living is CHEAP!!!

Mmm...nope...sorry to disappoint you, but the chimichangas were a California fare. I would never think to order a chimi in SA because I was not familiar with them until I visited the west coast.

Being that you said California had the better barbacoa, I would have presumed that any place I visited would've been better than what you say SA has to offer. By the way, why is it that the person on this thread who is coming from your nice state didn't know what barbacoa was, if it's, in your opinion, the best there is?

Oh, so is the rule that I can only respond to posts directed towards me only and not offer commentary on any other?

I tried my first chimichanga at 24. So, if you visited the west coast, you should know that like barbacoa, chimichangas are not all that popular in California.

And don't presume, because even SA has it's places in which barbacoa is not good.

Cali_LA, I was just going by your comment that California had better barbacoa than you could find in SA. No matter. I'm willing to try pretty much any food, but, taste and preference are personal. To each his own. I grew up in SA and have lived here all my life. As far as I'm concerned California cuisine is ok, but it isn't my preference. That's all.

Okay, I get it now. Maybe down in LA, since it's closer to Mexico, they call it Barbacoa. Since we're further north, we don't see it called barbacoa, it's either carne asada or carnitas. Either way, it's gooo oood!
