Weight Loss - What to do with clothes?
I've lost a lot of weight, and have a closet full of clothes that are too big for me. Does anyone know a reliable place in San Antonio to take some of my favorite pieces to have them altered? Is it even cost-efficient to have clothes altered?

Have the favorite clothes altered...but keep the rest of them, in case you decide to have a close relationship with food once again.

or donate some to something like the Salvation Army. It's a good thing for those in need and a tax write off

I would sell them as a "lot" on eBay. Lot sales of decent or better quality brands do well, even if they aren't mega-expensive brands, if they're up to date and in good shape. Unless something in the group is just amazing and irreplaceable then that's what I would do, personally. I understand holding on to them for a while to make sure your weight is stable, but I have done too much of the keeping it "just in case" and as a result I have stuff in my closet spanning FIVE sizes!

I don't know what part of town you are in, but you might check for tailors around the military installations. Fort Sam has an awesome cleaners/tailor shop on Harry Wurzbach (sorry...can't think of the name). Lots of military personnel getting uniform alterations all the time....and they do a great job. It's pretty much the same outside Randolph too. If your clothes are fairly new and good quality, then yes, it's worth it!
Congratulations!

I can't give any tailor reccomendations, but as far as to-alter-or-not-to-alter: if you love the item and it will cost you more than $15-20 to replace the piece (hey, I'm a cheapskate....yes, that's more than what a lot of my clothes cost!!), then get it altered. Otherwise, donate it and take the tax write off. It's much less hassle than ebay and you'll be doing somebody a huge favor . The kinds of things I altered when I had this "problem" (I know, I know, I use the term loosely!) were dress pants, suit pieces, and dresses....especially formal ones. T-shirts, capri pants, shorts, tank tops? It's empowering to get rid of 'em!
